"Do you know why you're here?" Alexander asked at last, his voice low and even.

The man hesitated, then answered. "I—I already told the officers everything I know. You can't get anything from me even if you tried."

Alexander smiled faintly.

"No," he said. "You told them what you wanted them to hear. Now, you'll tell me what I need to know."

He leaned forward slightly, resting his forearms on the table. The flickering light caught his eyes, making them glint sharply.

"I'm not here to listen to lies," Alexander continued calmly. "I'm here to peel them off you. It could be slow. It could be torturous but I'd ensure I peel them off you."

The man's breathing quickened. There was no doubt that Alexander would do just as he had said. It wasn't just a threat... it was a promise.

Alexander tapped the table once. The sound which echoes was final and absolute.

"So," he said softly, "let's begin again. And this time," his eyes narrowed, "don't try to insult my intelligence."
