Chapter 5 - CHAPTER 5-GAMES WE PLAY

Author's pov

The light from the sun streaming into the armoured van's windows slowly faded as it drove into the thick dark forest, the dry leaves on the ground cracked as the heavy tyres kept moving. The outside world faded with it's light and the dark world of the purple clan emerged. Aron kept an eye on the victims, most of them looked like they wanted to cry but couldn't due to the gun being pointed at them. Mon'itei was in the other van doing his usual incantations

The van slowly stopped in front of a group of huts with purple dyed thatches as roofs. A group of women wearing army colored up and down were busy cooking, washing, cleaning and storing weapons. There was a traditional stove in the middle of the compound where a fire was burning but no pot on top of it, at the left side children were busy engaging in intense combat training with an old but muscular man. As soon as they all saw the van, everyone stopped what they were doing. Aron and his men were the first to come out, followed by mon'itei and his group. Everyone in the purple clan bowed to the mom'itei as he looked at his people for a while and them dashed into his large hut 🛖 as if possessed by a demon.

"Cobra gather the victims in the killing room, I'll ask Eta (father) what to do with them" Aron commanded

Cobra nodded as he opened the boot of the van and pointed his gun at the victims

"Oya make una commot, line by line. I no want drama, if you gimme wahala I go give you shege" he shouted

"Please we have done nothing wrong, just free us" one elderly lady cried out

"You dey craze" Cobra grabbed the lady out of the van and pushed her to the ground

"Ahhhhh" the lady screamed in pain "son please, you have a mother too, what would she say if she saw you treating me this way?"

Cobra's eyes hardened "my mama don die, killed by people like you!"

He slapped and kicked the woman as she yelled in agony

The other victims watched im horror as he continued kicking the woman. They thought "if he can handle an elder like this, what of us that are young?!". They started crying in slience while praying for a Messiah to save them.

Cobra stopped hitting the lady whose face was now bloody and unrecognisable. He glared at the other victims daring them to mess with him and face the consequence.

"Oya start moving all of you"

They obeyed and started matching out of the van with their heads bowed in fear. They were led into a huge hut that had a huge fire at the entrance, it was known as the killing room; where fates were sealed by a native doctor that would sacrifice them to the purple deity.

Aron watched as the last person entered the hut. He sighed as Cobra shut the door and then screams started coming from inside the hut.

"The purple gods feeds on human flesh once again. How many more till they get satisfied?" He muttered to himself

A gentle hand rested on his shoulder "mira una" but he didn't flinch

"Moma una" he replied the gentle femine voice

He turned and smiled at his beautiful mother, Nwauwa. She was chocolate in complexion, Melanie dipped in gold by the creator. Her dimples showed as she smiled back, her brown eyes that always shone were dim, replaced by pain instead of joy.

"Mira una (my lovely son)" she repeated in purple language

"Moma una" Aron bowed and kissed her feet

Nwauwa bent a little and raised him up, she cuped his cheeks and then kissed them.

"I was so worried you weren't going to come back" she said as they both retreated into their hut.

They both sat on a cushion beautifully made with straws

"Hahaha" Aron laughed "mom you should know me by now, i never die in a battle"

Nwauwa smiled "i know but I get worried every time your father takes you out to those his stupid raids"

Aron hugged her

"I'm fine mom, no need to worry you gave birth to a gangster"

"I thought i gave birth to a charming young man that loves me" she joked

"I can be both" he chuckled

"I made your favourite food for you, Egusi soup"

She stood up and turned her back to him in order to serve the food. Aron's smile faded as he saw red marks all over her body

"He still hurts you for his pleasure?" He asked

"Huh?" She froze realising that he had seen the marks "no those are just old wounds..."

"Stop lying to me mother!" He yelled angrily "i know a fresh wound when I see one"

Nwauwa turned to him

"Aron it's nothing i can't handle, if I gave birth to a fighter like you then I can handle this" she joked again

"Stop trying to cheer me up, he's hurting you!"

She kept quiet

"Yes"

"I'm going to..." He stood up to leave

"You're going to do what?" His mother's calm voice stopped him "kill him? Hurt him back? Impossible, mon'itei is no human you can hurt, he strives in pain. There's nothing you can do son"

Aron stood at the door defeated

"I can't just keep calm and let him hurt you"

"Son i understand but this is my battle not yours, i can handle him"

"But you're my mother"

"And as your mother, i want you to stay out of this. I'll be fine"

She stood up and went over to him

"Please don't try to confront him, I'll deal with the purple monster myself"

Aron just nodded sadly

"Come and eat now"
