Chapter 6 - CHAPTER 6-MEMORIES

Aurora's pov

"Babe stop" i giggled as he kissed me over my face

"I won't stop until you gimme what I want" he continued with his sweet assault

I pushed him off as i raced across the room hoping he would chase me. I giggled as i heard his footsteps behind me

"David stop" i ran faster

"Ahhhh" he suddenly screamed

I turned and gasped as I saw my boyfriend covered in blood, his face suddenly changed into an ugly mess

"Babe" i tried to run towards him but a purple hand grabbed me

"He's gone now" the voice laughed

"Nooooooo!!!"

*****

I suddenly woke up panting in fear

"David, David" i gasped holding my chest in pain

It was just a dream

"I felt his lips" i whispered as I brought my knees up and hugged myself crying"he can't be dead... please"

Ring!!

I jerked out of my thoughts as my phone rang. I picked it up from the side table and answered the call 🤙🏻

"H..hello?" I stammered

"Aurora my dear, i just called to check up on you" it was Esther, David's single mother

"Morning mom, I'm fine" i lied

"No need to pretend dear, i miss him too. Honestly it's hard to believe he's really dead, the police still hasn't found his body" she sounded sad

"I just pray they find his body, i want to look at him one last time"

"Aurora I'm scared" she whispered

"Of what?"

"Of everything, I've already lost a husband and now they've taken my som away too. I don't want them to take you too" she cried

I wish I could hug her

"Nothing will happen to me mom, I'll be careful" i assured her

"Please do. Can you please come over to my house for lunch today? I just want to hug you" she pleaded

"Sure, but with this chaos going on i don't think it's safe to come outside. But don't worry I'll find a way and come to you"

"Okay I'll be waiting. Love you"

I ended the call and just collapsed on the bed.

******

"Please drive carefully" i said to the uber driver driving me to banana island 🏝️

"No worries ma" he nodded

I thanked him and just looked out of the window, the dead bodies on the road had been cleared, though there were still some stains of blood here and there. The road was unexpectedly filled with people going about their businesses, no one seem to care about the incident that happened yesterday. I wasn't really surprised, i mean this is Nigeria, bad things happen everyday so Nigerians are used to it. We are so used to danger that we sometimes laugh about it, bad governance- we post funny memes of the supposed bad leader, flood occurs in Lagos almost every time and yet we keep moving. Honestly left for me, Nigerians are the most strongest and happiest people on earth, nothing dims our spirits. When foreigners come online on social media, they expect to see many videos of Nigerians crying but instead the internet is filled with our vibrant, colourful and funny videos. Nija no dey carry last at all. We're just used to it so why cry, we just laugh 😂.I just chuckled and looked at the buildings that had been affected by the bomb, most of them were big time companies

"Alot of people lost their jobs" i sighed

"I swear" the driver said "thank God i went to Aba to see my family yesterday, who knows what would have become of me"

I just hissed and waved my head

"Such is life" i said "um could you please turn on the radio, i need something to distract myself"

He nodded and turned the radio 📻 on, one side by Iyanya was playing. I just nodded my head to the music trying to drown myself in it, but the music was suddenly interrupted by the voice of a radio presenter

"Okay we're back from our short break, hope you enjoyed the musics dished out by our DJ" the radio presenter's voice echoed in the car "so back to what we were saying, the purple Lagoon. Who are they and what do they want with Lagos?"

I just hissed

"Okay we're going to start hearing the thoughts of different Lagosians on the incident that happened yesterday and what they think triggered it. Once again the number is 09133635487"

He reapeated the number and then paused for a bit, a beep was heard from the background indicating someone was calling

"Okay our first caller, hello what's your name and where are you calling from?"

"My name is Temitope, I'm calling from lekki"

"Okay Temi, so what's your thoughts?"

"Honestly I dey vex for this purple chickens or whatever they call themselves..."

The driver burst out laughing and I unwillingly joined him

"Ahhh take am easy oh" the presenter chuckled

"Boss man i dey vex, this people butchered alot of innocent victims, if they want justice for themselves, they just focus on the government not the masses" the caller yelled angrily

"Okay i get you" the presenter said

"Infact f**k them!"

The line suddenly went dead as the presenter ended the call

"Please turn it off" i told the driver

"Okay ma" he obeyed and turned it off "we don reach"

I looked out and saw that we were now in front of Esther's estate, i paid the driver and then got down from the car as he quickly drove off.

Esther's estate looked a bit different, some of the houses were blown away while some had their walls broken. I just prayed that Esther's house would be fine. I started walking towards B13 her house and was relieved when I saw it was perfectly okay. Her maid was watering the rose garden when I walked into the compound

"Auntie Aura!!!" She screamed excitedly as soon as she saw me

I smiled as she ran to hug me

"Shola how are you doing?" I held her

"Auntie, honestly nobody is fine in this estate so I won't lie, I'm not alright" she said sadly "i miss uncle David so much, i was the one that opened the gate for him when he left that morning"

Tears started dropping from her eyes, i quickly wiped them while trying to control my own tears

"It'll be okay, don't cry anymore"

She nodded

"Is your madam inside?" I asked her

"Yes, she's even waiting for you inside"

I followed her into the house, Esther was busy pacing around in her large gold painted living room. As soon as she laid her sad eyes on me, she rushed towards me to give me a hug

"Good day mom, how are you holding on?" I asked her as we sat down

"I'm okay" her eyes looked reddish as a result of too much crying

"Where's Diana?" I asked

"She's in her room crying for her brother, she hasn't come down to eat since yesterday"

"She must be hating me right now, i mean I'm the reason David died.."

"Don't say that, he was only trying to protect you" she paused "he never even got to surprise you"

"Huh?" I looked at her

"Well that morning, he was planning to surprise you by proposing to you at your work place. That's the reason he left the house in the first place"

I couldn't control the tears anymore

"He was planning to marry me?"

"Yeah, he was so excited. I couldn't even stop him from leaving" she cried "if I had known I'd have told him to stay home"

I just kept quiet, i was going to spend "forever" with the love of my life and those purple idiots ruined everything. I clutched my stomach in pain as I cried

"It's okay dear" Esther hugged me "maybe this is just God's plan and we have no control over it"

"Don't say that, God has nothing to do with this. It's the devil and his purple demonic sons" i said as I wiped my tears

She just nodded

"Has your dad said anything about the incident?" She asked

Esther knew about my parents since she was mom's best friend

"He wants me to leave the country"

"That's a good decision" she said

"I don't want to leave"

She looked at me in shock

"Why???"

"I just can't leave, I'm bound to this city. There's this spirit that draws me to stay"

"Are you crazy or something? That spirit is definitely the devil. My dear, Lagos is no longer safe for anyone"

"Well it's my choice and I've chosen to stay"

"You're being foolish right now, what else are you staying for?! You've already lost your job, future husband and may lose more if you don't fled this country" she said angrily

"You sound just like my dad" i rolled my eyes

"Well he sounds like a wise man" she fired back

"Mom just let it be, I'll be fine"

"Aurora stop being stubborn 🫏, if David were still here he'd tell you to leave too"

"Well he's no longer here, hence the more reason I want to stay"

"You're digging your grave dear. But I guess it's your choice, I've already prepared a visa for Diana and I. We'll be leaving tomorrow, i was hoping you'd join us but you've already decided to die here in Lagos"

"It's not like that mom. Safe journeys anyway, make sure to call me when you get to your destination"

"I will. Please take care of yourself here and be very careful, if you ever change your mind just call me and I'll come and take you"

I smiled as she hugged me

"David or no David, you'll always be my daughter"

"Thanks mom. Um i have to leave now, i had to sneak out of the house so dad wouldn't see me"

"Hahaha kk, I'll drop you off"

"Don't worry, i don't want to stress you"

"Hmmmm, okay but at least use one of the cars outside. I don't think it's safe to wait for Uber or taxi"

I nodded "okay. Greet Diana for me and please tell her to stop crying"

"No worries dear"

I kissed her and then left the room
