As she stepped off the subway train and onto the streets of New York City Maya felt a sense of liberation wash over her. The bright lights and endless energy of the city were a far cry from the suffocating pain and the betrayal she'd left behind. With a deep breath she let go of the past and stepped into the unknown, ready to forge a new path and create a life of her own design.
What was supposed to be a happy event had become the reason she left home, the place should grew up, the place filled with her mother's memories and love. But now she was in a new place, a place where she knew no one,had no friends. But looking back at the events that took place it didn't matter anymore because now she had no family, no friends and certainly had no one to call her own.
Pulling her suitcase she hailed a cab to drive her to a hotel where she will be staying until she was settled. She had a lot of things to do, first she needed to find an apartment to stay but most importantly she had to find a job. Arriving at the hotel she took her key card from the receptionist and took the elevator to the 10th floor where she would be staying .As soon as she got into the room she unpacked her clothes and went straight to the bathroom she was extremely exhausted and needed a shower to refresh herself.After what seemed like an hour Maya made it out of the bathroom, her body wrapped in a white towel he had another towel wrapped around her head. Changing into something comfortable She took her hair dryer and began to dry hair.
FLASHBACK
Everyone moved in sync With the music as they were enjoying themselves. The birthday girl was all smiles, why wouldn't she,it was actually the first time celebrating a birthday after her mother's death. She still could not believe her father actual planned to surprise party for her and she loved it because it was her 21st birthday.
Maya didn't even get to cut the cake as she witnessed something that shattered her heart into pieces. She just walked into the kitchen to get herself a class of water when she stumbled upon her so-called boyfriend making out with her stepsister.
"Jake Smith how could you" she questioned in a cracked voice. The sound of glass shattering drew the attention of her father Raphael Jones and her stepmother Mary Wayne. They walked into the kitchen To witness what was happening.
"Stop being paranoid Maya nothing is going on between Sarah and me."
"Jake baby" Sarah said in a flirticious tone
"Oh who am I kidding ,yes it is exactly as you have seen, Sarah and I are dating and don't blame me she's the younger and much prettier than you. And besides it's all your fault you were so distant you were the one who pulled away from me, and I never even slept with you for Christ's sake and again why would I want to when I have Sarah with me?"
"How could you do this with my sister she's family ,you were supposed to be part of our family too ,Why did you do this to me?"
"Family, What family are you referring to ,this is actually the last day for you in this house so pack your bags and leave . You're finally 21 ,if it wasn't for the promise my husband made to your mother you would have left this house a long time back ,but as the saying goes better late than never." her stepmother said
"Dad,are you just gonna watch them do this to me?"
"I'm sorry Maya "Those were the only words her father said as she was thrown out of the house.

She wiped her tears before she felt into a deep slumber.
