Evelin's POV
"What's wrong?" I stared at Jimmy, puzzled by his sudden tension.
He yanked his hand away. "Nothing."
But I could see right through him. He didn't want me taking Allen's call.
Allen posed a real threat to him—more than Grey ever could. Jimmy had already pulled strings to get Allen transferred back to Bonnie City, keeping him away from me.
Now Allen was calling out of nowhere, and I could practically feel Jimmy's anxiety radiating off him.
I picked up anyway. Allen's voice came through, warm and familiar. "Hey, your bodyguard gig finally over?"
"How'd you find out?" Surprise colored my tone.
"Dropped by the base earlier, overheard some chatter. So when are you heading back to Bonnie City now that you're free?"
My stomach dropped. The assignment was done. Time to go back.
"Want me to grab you a ticket? I'll meet you at the airport when you land!" His excitement practically buzzed through the phone.
