I blinked in surprise. "You're back?"

"I wanted to surprise you," Madeline admitted with a laugh, "but keeping secrets isn't my strong suit. Think of this as advance warning. I'm finishing up some business in Veridia, then I'll be heading your way in a few days."

"Business in Veridia?" I asked, curious.

She let out a mischievous giggle.

"I'll fill you in when I see you. Just be ready to roll out the welcome mat!"

"Absolutely," I said, my spirits lifting at the prospect of seeing my friend again.

We chatted for a few more minutes before hanging up.

The cheerful news had me practically floating as I headed to my appointment with Caspian.

Julio had connected me with him, and I'd reached out about designing my studio space. Lucky for me, he had time today, so we'd agreed to meet at the café beside my rented storefront.

I parked and spotted him through the glass, already settled at a table with some documents spread out before him.
