Once again, Isobel's instinct was to reject the proposal outright.
"If I actually threw Mrs. Welch a birthday celebration, considering the tension between you and the Welch family, how would you even attend? Morris would lose faith in me, and so would Mrs. Welch herself. How would I ever get access to that classified document?"
Isobel refused to become the betrayer in this scenario.
Toby remained completely indifferent to Isobel's concerns.
"That's your problem to solve, not mine. My job is telling you what I need - yours is finding a way to deliver it. Since we're partners in this arrangement, I'll do what I can to support your objectives as well."
"Absolutely not!" Isobel's response was firm and unwavering.
Her position was crystal clear; anyone could tell she had no intention of compromising.
