The moment I slipped into the perfect gown after Jefferson's sudden announcement that I would accompany him to the ball, I caught my reflection and couldn't help but smile. The midnight blue dress molded to my curves flawlessly, its silk fabric catching the warm light with every movement. The off-shoulder design exposed just enough skin to be enticing while maintaining sophistication. Intricate silver embroidery traced delicate patterns across the bodice, creating an almost magical shimmer. My hair fell in soft waves down my spine, with gentle curls framing my face. I'd selected understated diamond jewelry that complemented rather than competed with the dress.

I'd always been confident in my appearance, but tonight felt different. There was something electric in the air, something that made me feel untethered from my usual constraints. Alana had departed after laughing at my story about getting reprimanded, leaving me alone with my anticipation.
