The chocolate gift basket sat perfectly arranged on the coffee table, and I couldn't help thinking how much Elsie would love every piece inside it.

I settled back into the couch cushions, my fingers drumming absently against the leather armrest. The apartment was wrapped in silence, broken only by the steady rhythm of my watch ticking away the seconds.

Camilla had stepped out to get the door several minutes earlier, mentioning it was likely Eden stopping by. But now more than five minutes had passed.

Why is this taking so long?

I glanced at my watch face again. Perhaps Eden had lingered for some casual conversation at the entrance. Yet Camilla wasn't one to waste time with idle chatter, particularly when we had groceries waiting to be stored.

An uneasy feeling crept over me.

That's when her voice drifted down the hallway.

"What are you doing here? How did you find this place?"
