"So what exactly did you want to discuss?" Camilla asked, her voice carrying that casual tone I was starting to recognize, though her eyes held genuine curiosity. She stood with her arms folded loosely, head cocked to one side as she watched me.

Something about the way she looked at me, not with suspicion exactly, but with that keen, searching gaze made my pulse quicken. I drew in a slow breath, the weight of my confession pressing against my ribs like a stone.

"I need you to know that..." I started, but my words were cut short by the insistent buzzing in my pocket.

You've got to be kidding me.

My jaw tightened with immediate irritation before I even glanced at the screen. I pulled out my phone to see the familiar name lighting up the display: Mom.
