Chapter 11 - Chapter 11 The Learned Herbalist

"When it comes to natural elements, 'pentagram' or 'hexagram' magic arrays are generally used." Because the people sent by the "Mysterious Queen" had such poor foundational knowledge, Odis had no choice but to start with the basics:

"The reason for using the 'pentagram' formation is that before the Third Age, extraordinary beings believed that the world was composed of earth, air, water, fire, and ether."

"The reason for using the 'six-pointed star' magic circle is that, by the Fourth Epoch, extraordinary scholars believed that gold should also be a fundamental element constituting the world."

"Or rather, 'gold' should be differentiated from the original 'earth'. At the same time, it is said that the 'pentagram' magic circle would occasionally summon demons, so the 'hexagram' magic circle was widely used."

The woman who came to learn no longer showed any disdain: "I've heard that the Belial family in the Blood Worship Cult has a pentagram element in their emblem."

Odis nodded: "I've also seen similar information. The change of the magic circle from a 'pentagram' to a 'hexagram' should be related to them."

As he spoke, he drew two isosceles triangles on a piece of paper, each with the same center but facing different directions. This is what he called a "six-pointed star".

Odis then drew a small circle in the center of the triangle: "The symbol in this circle is very important. In the magic circle I am about to describe, we cannot use the common symbol that represents fire, but we must use this symbol."

He first drew a trapezoid, and then drew a spiraling indicator on each of the four sides of the trapezoid.

The woman paused for a moment, then said, "I've never seen this symbol before, but its shape looks very similar to the symbol for fire."

"This is a symbol that I derived from six applications of the flame symbol," Odis said.

"Can mystical symbols be deduced?"

Instead of answering the question directly, Odis asked, "Have you heard any legends about the origin of occult symbols?"

The woman nodded: "According to legend, these symbols are a system of mystical symbols created by our ancestors based on some of the symbols on the 'blasphemous stone tablet'."

Odis said, "This legend has elements of fabrication; the symbols on the 'blasphemous tablet' would never be so rudimentary."

"Don't ask me how I know, I won't tell you even if you ask."

He knew that the characters on the "blasphemous stone tablet" were the kind of characters that could only be understood intuitively, and might not even have a fixed form. How could he imitate such a thing?

"These must be a set of symbols that our ancestors found by chance, symbols that could trigger certain reactions from extraordinary characteristics," Odis said. "Based on my research over the years, this set of symbols is far from perfect."

"So I derived a new set of symbols, which, after verification, proved to be more effective than the original mystical symbols."

The woman belatedly realized a question: "Why do mystical symbols react with the extraordinary?"

"This touches on the question of 'the nature of spirituality'."

"The essence of spirituality?"

Odis smiled: "As an extraordinary person who follows the scholarly path, you must have pondered questions like, 'What exactly is spirituality?'"

The woman suddenly felt like an ignorant elementary school student: "Spirituality...isn't it just spirituality?"

Odis said, "This issue is not included in this transaction; we can discuss it another time."

The woman was immediately disappointed.

"Let's continue. Outside the small circle are four directional symbols…" Odis continued explaining the magic circle used in the weapon.

From the indicator symbols outside the small circle to the symbols inside the hexagon, and then to the ring of mystical symbols outside the large circle, the array he drew is very similar to the classic "six-pointed star" array, but there are many differences in the details.

As Odis explained everything step by step, it was as if a new door had been opened for the lady. She realized that the magic circle, which had been overlooked before, had so many mysteries and uses!

Finally, Odis began to explain the paint used for the magic circles in the weapons.

The entire magic circle should be painted in dark red, and the symbol in the very center should be painted in bright red.

In addition, the six symbols in the "six-pointed star" should be bright yellow, and the outermost ring of mystical symbols should be black.

These coatings must contain "magma pyroxene powder" and "red crown herb powder" in a certain proportion. These two spiritual materials are auxiliary materials for the "Hunter" path to advance to Sequence 7 "Pyromaniac," and are not common spiritual materials.

Therefore, each maintenance of the weapon costs £80.

After the magic circle was drawn, the lady still had many questions, but Odis only explained some basic principles and did not go into too much detail.

As he said before, that was not included in this transaction.

At 5 p.m., Odis announced that today's lesson was over and that they would come back the day after tomorrow morning to learn how to disassemble and reassemble the weapon.

The woman stood up and said, "Professor Garr, my name is Aria. I hope that I will have the opportunity to ask you questions about occult symbols sometime in the future."

She realized that the knowledge Odis possessed was extremely important to the "Scroll Professor," and might even bring about a qualitative change in her abilities.

Odis smiled and said, "Alright, we'll talk about it another time."

Not a single mistake, not a single poem, not a single post, not a single piece of content, not a single look!

Aria then asked, "Does this weapon have a name?"

Odis scratched his head: "I hate the naming process the most, so I just gave it a code name."

"Such a creative weapon deserves a catchy name!" Arya thought for a moment and said, "How about 'Flaming Arrow'?"

Odis nodded: "That works too."

He has always been very easygoing when it comes to naming things.

After saying goodbye again, Arya left Garr's Herbalist Shop and took a carriage to a small villa in the Joewood district.

The servants in the villa kept an eye on the fireplace, and the burning flames dispelled the dampness and cold of the city. Arya hurried to her study and first wrote down what she had learned that day in her notebook.

As she pondered Oedipus's question about "spiritual essence," the flames in the fireplace suddenly turned icy green and even began to rise from the fireplace.

Arya knew that the "messenger" of the "mysterious queen" had arrived, and she immediately got up.

Whew~

After a fierce fire broke out, Arya sensed that there was suddenly someone in the study. The flames in the fireplace returned to their normal color, but there was only air in front of her, not even a person in sight.

"How's your study progress today?" The voice of the "mysterious queen" echoed through the air, as if the queen were right in front of you.

Aria bowed slightly to the air: "I only learned the principle of that magic circle, but Odis did not explain the underlying theory in detail."

At the same time, she realized that the "Queen" was very concerned about what she was doing.

"Did he explain those unfamiliar occult symbols?"

Arya roughly understood that the "Queen" had noticed the most crucial part of the magic circle: those derived mystical symbols.

When Bernadette learned that those unfamiliar occult symbols were actually deduced by Odis, she thought to herself from another part of the city: Are the requirements for opening a herbal medicine shop so high now? You even have to deduce occult symbols?
