The first reaction did not come from the Court.
Nor from the Watchers.
It came from the world itself.
The ground beneath the Sixth Mountain did not tremble. It adjusted.
Seals along the outer ridges recalibrated—not weakening, not strengthening—
reorienting.
Yan Ming noticed it immediately.
"…They're shifting alignment."
Su Qingyue frowned.
"Seals don't do that on their own."
"No," Yan Ming said."They respond to authority."
Zhou Shan blinked.
"WHO AUTHORIZED THE MOUNTAIN—?!"
Lian Hong felt it in his chest—a subtle pressure, like gravity leaning slightly toward him.
"…It's not obeying me."
Yan Ming nodded.
"It's recognizing you."
That was worse.
Within the Court's inner halls, the archive seals flared.
Not in alarm.
In confirmation.
An attendant rushed in, pale.
"The Sixth Mountain's fracture—it acknowledged contact."
The elders fell silent.
One of them closed his eyes.
"…So it heard him."
Another elder spoke sharply.
"Then this is no longer theoretical."
The oldest elder raised his staff.
"Prepare a response."
"Military?" someone asked.
"No," he replied immediately.
"That would provoke the wrong outcome."
"Then what?"
The elder hesitated.
Then spoke the word none of them liked.
"Accountability."
Elsewhere,in a place without location,
a Watcher paused mid-step.
He did not look surprised.
He simply adjusted a mark in the air—a notation visible only to those who measured consequence.
"…Carrier established two-way contact."
Another Watcher's voice echoed faintly.
"Probability spike?"
"Contained," the first replied.
"But accelerating."
A pause.
"Do we intervene?"
"No."
"Not yet."
"Then we monitor?"
"Yes."
"And prepare for correction."
Silence followed.
Then a final note was added:
Countdown initiated.
Far from the Court, far from the fracture,
the masked figure tilted his head.
He felt it—not as disruption, but as completion.
"…So you spoke to him."
The mask turned slightly,as if smiling beneath it.
"Good."
A gloved hand traced an unseen line.
"Now the system must answer."
For the first time in a long while, the masked one stepped forward.
Not toward the fracture.
Toward the world.
Back in the cleared chamber,Yan Ming's expression darkened.
"The contact triggered a threshold."
Lian Hong looked at him steadily.
"…What kind?"
Yan Ming didn't soften the answer.
"Time-bound response."
Su Qingyue stiffened.
"You mean a deadline."
"Yes."
Zhou Shan panicked instantly.
"HOW LONG—?!PLEASE SAY A LONG TIME—!"
Yan Ming inhaled.
"Three windows."
"The Court will issue formal terms."
"The Watchers will reassess interference thresholds."
"And the masked one…"
He paused.
"…Will test you."
Lian Hong exhaled slowly.
"…How much time?"
Yan Ming met his gaze.
"Ninety days."
Silence hit like a weight.
Zhou Shan collapsed backward.
"NINETY DAYS—THAT'S NOTHING—!"
Su Qingyue clenched her fists.
"What happens at the end?"
Yan Ming answered quietly:
"The fracture either stabilizes long-term."
"Or it escalates beyond containment."
Lian Hong nodded.
"…So this is the cost of being heard."
Su Qingyue stepped closer.
"Do you regret it?"
Lian Hong shook his head.
"No."
Yan Ming watched him closely.
"You understand what's coming."
"Yes."
"The Court will pressure you."
"I know."
"The Watchers will measure you."
"I expect that."
"And the masked one—"
Lian Hong's shadow shifted faintly.
"…Will try to push me into a decision."
Yan Ming exhaled.
"Good."
"Then you're not naïve."
The chamber settled.
The fracture pulsed once—not in warning.
In acknowledgment.
Lian Hong felt it clearly now:
Not power.
Responsibility with inertia.
"…It won't wait," he said softly.
Yan Ming nodded.
"No."
"Nothing that listens ever does."
Zhou Shan looked up, pale.
"…So what do we do?"
Lian Hong stood.
The shadow beneath him aligned.
Steady.
Present.
"We prepare."
Su Qingyue straightened.
"For what?"
Lian Hong's gaze hardened—not cold,but resolved.
"For negotiations that aren't honest."
"For tests that aren't fair."
"And for a choice the worldhas been avoiding for a long time."
Outside, the mountain remained silent.
The Court recalculated.
The Watchers counted.
The masked one advanced.
And somewhere beyond the fracture, the one the world abandoned waited—no longer alone.
