Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: Pedophile

"M… Mr. Yao…" Mianmian stammered as she stood stiffly inside the office.

Mr. Yao, the forty-year-old director of the news agency, sat comfortably in his leather chair. His hands rested on the desk, his expression unreadable. He didn't even bother looking up.

"Mr. Yao?" Mianmian tried again, her voice small.

At last, he lifted his head.

"Mianmian, Mianmian, Mianmian…" He sighed dramatically. "Beautiful, but a fool!"

Her heart sank, and her expression dimmed immediately.

"Star Pulse Entertainment's grand opening is today. You were supposed to be there by nine," he said, glaring. "But Miss Mianmian chose to come whenever she pleased. Because she's just an intern, right? Trust me, I can leave such terrible reviews on your record that you'll never get hired anywhere."

"I'm sorry, Mr. Yao. This will never happen again," she said quickly.

"Get going to the opening. Now!" He snapped. "And try your best to convince the CEO to grant an interview. If you fail, don't bother coming back. Now get out! You're already giving me a headache." He waved his hand dismissively, shooing her away.

Mianmian slowly stepped out of the office, closing the door behind her. She let out a long sigh.

"So," Yuqi said immediately. She had clearly been eavesdropping outside the whole time. "How exactly are you planning to convince the CEO Mo for an interview? I heard he doesn't do interviews and people say he's really scary."

"Huh? I don't know…" Mianmian mumbled as they walked down the hall. "I thought we were only interns. Why do we have to do the difficult tasks"

"Mr. Yao really hates you," Yuqi said bluntly. "Ever since you rejected his proposal, he's been tormenting you nonstop."

"Who would agree to date a disgusting old pedophile like him?" Mianmian clicked her tongue. "I'm only twenty, he's forty, almost fifty! And I already have a boyfriend."

"What are my two beautiful ladies talking about?" a soft, warm male voice called out.

A handsome young man approached them with a gentle smile.

"Yuze!" both girls waved happily.

The three of them were college best friends who had ended up interning in the same news agency.

"Let me guess," Yuze said with a sigh, noticing Mianmian's troubled expression. "Mr. Yao again?"

"Yes…" Mianmian muttered. "And I need to leave now."

She hurried off toward the exit.

"Good luck!" Yuqi shouted after her.

Yuze watched her figure disappear down the hallway, a sad look flickering in his eyes.
