The fight concluded with Erdrain managing to combat the monster, even without his full abilities. He was able to fend them off and kill most of them within the barrier, aided by the townspeople who prevented further assaults from the creature using various tools at their disposal.
Norshan continued conversing with Shadrex when he glanced at Kiran, sensing the shimmering flow of her soul essence. He perceived what no mere mortal could, urging Shadrex to leave as he handed him his sheathed sword. "Leave now," he said. Norshan struggled to explain to Shadrex why the creature attacked, understanding that it would target powerful beings like a sword saint or anything that constantly radiates energy. Shadrex mounted his horse, with Kiran donning her long white gown. She wrapped her arms around his waist, finding it difficult to stabilize herself as she had never been on a horse before, holding onto Shadrex tightly. As Kiran's glimmering soul faded from sight, Norshan felt a profound sense of loss. He sat in front of his wooden cabin, awaiting the end of his days.
The townspeople demanded to know the reason for the monster's presence. Erdrain suddenly felt a chilling presence as he gazed at the crowd. The townsmen continued to ask him why the barrier was failing, but he could offer little reassurance, saying that the king would send reinforcements to the barrier. Shadrex, galloping from the crowd, approached Erdrain with pain in his voice, declaring, "I want to kill them all." Erdrain scoffed, responding that it was not the place of an angry young man to seek vengeance; he should grieve with his family and mourn their losses. Shadrex replied coldly, "How many more will mourn? Should I mourn an empty building? Soon there will be no Berl." He asserted again, "I will kill them all," even if it meant losing himself in the process, as Erdrain met Shadrex's cold eyes filled with determination.
Erdrain mounted his wild hound and instructed, "Meet me at the capital," before leaping into the sky. The view revealed shattered buildings and burning flames as villagers tried to extinguish the fires. Shadrex gently urged Ray, "Let's go."
Ray galloped down the mountain, descending rapidly as she raced toward the capital. The sky was warm, and Kiran kept looking around as the burd flew in unison. They arrived at Dushmire, a vast and bustling place. Shadrex approached the palace's large doors, jumping down from his horse to assist Kiran in dismounting Ray. He gently tapped Ray's mane, encouraging her to stay, and rubbed her face, saying, "Good horse, stay." As a guard held the cord, Shadrex and Kiran walked toward the palace's giant doors. A massive man-beast with large hooves stood before them, gazing down at Shadrex.
With a rough but calm voice, he asked, "What brings you here?" Kiran quickly interjected, saying they came from the town of Berl seeking Erdrain. The giant struck his rod into the ground, causing a soft energy flow that revealed a passageway. "Head down the hallway; there you shall find what you seek." Kiran glanced at Shadrex, whose eyes were fixed on the stairs beneath him. The man added, "I've been expecting you."
They walked down the hall, and as a loud clang echoed, the wall shut behind them. Kiran turned back, taking a heavy sigh, while Shadrex remained unfazed and continued walking. Suddenly, a green light illuminated the walls, a crystal light moving in a pattern ahead of them, brightening the surroundings significantly.
A whirring sound came from ahead, prompting Shadrex to instinctively raise his hand to parry a spear, preparing for battle. Both Kiran and Shadrex leaned against each other as the spear hung mid-air. Erdrain revealed his presence, impressed that Shadrex could block the spear even as he concealed its energy. "Follow me." Kiran spotted his wild hound as Erdrain brushed past it, growling sounds emanating from every corner. Kiran asked, "What is that?" to which Erdrain replied, "Dushmire is known for its many secrets."
Erdrain turned to Shadrex, saying, "You must have a good teacher, a sword saint, an elite warrior." Shadrex replied, "A blind friend." Erdrain's face widened in bewilderment, and without a word, Shadrex remained silent. "So tell me about this blind friend of yours," Erdrain continued. Shadrex interrupted him with a direct question, "Where will the next wave of monsters hit?"
They exited the underground, and Kiran gazed at the inner kingdom of Dushmire, finding it more magnificent than the stories of her childhood as she whispered, "It's... it's magnificent."
Erdrain looked at Shadrex, saying, "If I had known where all the creatures emerged, Berl wouldn't have suffered so much damage." He continued, "You see, I want to destroy every last one of them. With the barrier set, there should be no monsters trying to force their way in unless..." He paused, looking directly at Shadrex with a murderous intent in his eyes. He was cut off by one of the kingdom's guards, who said, "You're needed in the council; the king is waiting for your arrival."
The guard wanted to stop Shadrex, but Kiran Erdrain spoke, telling him to leave them as they walked to the center of the constantly moving palace.
"You're late," the king said. "The council has suggested you should travel across the land to keep them at bay and prevent any further harm to this kingdom."
Erdrain replied, "My king, my duty is to ensure your safety."
King Malrik interrupted, saying, "Now your duty is to protect my daughter."
Erdrain responded, "You can't have her come with me; it's far more dangerous out there. She has proven to be too stubborn. All lives are significant, small or great. If you don't value them, you're not fit to rule."
"She rides with you at dawn," King Malrik said. Erdrain couldn't oppose him any further and could only watch as he turned back before stopping.
"Who are these?" Erdrain asked.
Shadrex introduced himself, and King Malrik responded to Erdrain. Erdrain looked at Kiran, who answered, "I am Kiran of Berl from the House of Norshan."
King Malrik instructed a nearby maid, "Prepare all the supplies needed for their journey."
Erdrain questioned the king's actions.
Scylla seraph princess of dushmire first daughter of kingmalrik Her face is a flawless blend of elven elegance and youthful strength. High, sculpted cheekbones rise gently above smooth, moon-pale skin that carries her father skins. Her jawline is slim and refined, tapering into a soft, graceful chin. Her eyes areslightly upturned given them a fox like sharpness an alluring, glowing a deep forest-green with golden flecks that shift like sunlight through leaves. Long, dark lashes frame them, giving her gaze a quiet intensity. Her nose is narrow and straight, ending in a delicate lift that adds a regal softness. Her lips are full with a natural rose tint, shaped in a gentle that hint are arrogance an calm authority. Her eyebrows are thin, arched, and elegantly shaped, echoing the contours of her long, finely pointed ears. With her silver-blonde hair framing her features, her entire face carries a serene, of her elf beauty.
. As night fell, the great hall of King Malrik blazed with torchlight, each flame flickering against polished stone and the banners of past victories. Long oak tables groaned under platters of roasted boar, honey-glazed fowl, steaming loaves of bread, and bowls overflowing with wild berries and sweet spiced wine. The aroma of herbs, smoke, and freshly carved meat wafted through the air while minstrels played gentle melodies from a corner, their lutes resonating beneath the vaulted ceiling.
At the high table sat King Malrik, broad-shouldered, with his crown resting heavily on dark, silver hair . His deep crimson fur cloak trailed behind him, and golden rings shimmered on his fingers as he raised his goblet. Beside him was his daughter, Princess Scylla, poised with quiet elegance. Her silver-blond hair cascaded in soft waves around her shoulders, and her silver circlet reflected the torchlight. Although young, her gaze possessed the keen awareness of someone raised in courts where words were weapons sharper than blades.
The hall fell silent as Erdrain entered, dust clinging to his boots and cloak from a long journey. He paused, bowing stiffly, uncertain if he belonged among such grandeur. His leather attire was worn, his hair tousled by the wind, and the faint remnants of travel clung to him like a second skin.
King Malrik's voice resounded across the hall, deep and commanding.
"Erdrain! Come and sit with me."
A hush followed. Nobles exchanged glances; a man bearing road dust at the king's table was no small matter.
Scylla turned her gaze toward Shadrex, her expression inscrutable yet curious, her fingers lightly encircling a goblet adorned with moonstone inlays. She shifted slightly to create space beside her, the candlelight casting a gentle glow on her face.
Erdrain stepped forward with Shadrex and Kiran, the sound of his boots echoing against the stone floor. Servants hurried to pull out a chair near the king, nervously brushing the dust from its surface. As he sat down, a goblet of dark wine was placed before him, its surface shimmering with reflections of fire.
Malrik leaned closer, a faint smile
"You arrive at a fortunate hour. Rest. Eat. Tonight, the hall is warm and the kingdom is safe."
Scylla observed Shadrex with quiet intensity as he sat down with Kiran, the subtle lift of her brows indicating interest rather than disapproval. A soft melody rose from the minstrels once more, and the hall came alive again with laughter, clinking cups, and the hum of conversation.
