Selena turned back to Lily with undisguised contempt.
"Don't think pretending will save you," she said coldly. "Someone like you—"
Lily suddenly looked up.
Tears welled instantly in her eyes.
They rolled down her cheeks in perfect timing.
"Husband…" she whispered.
Her voice cracked.
Selena stiffened.
Lily stepped closer to Jacob, clutching the edge of his sleeve like she was grasping her last lifeline.
"Do you remember what you promised me before?" she asked softly.
Jacob's body tensed.
"You said you would treat me well," Lily continued, tears falling faster, "and that you'd never let me suffer grievances again."
Her voice trembled.
"But what about now?"
She looked at Selena, then back at Jacob—hurt, confused, heartbroken.
"Why is there another woman appearing in front of me… in your company… calling me shameless?"
Her tears soaked into Jacob's sleeve.
Selena's face finally changed.
