I barely slept, my mind spinning through every possible outcome of the tribunal. When dawn finally came, Ezra and I dressed in silence, both of us tense with anticipation.
"No matter what they decide," Ezra said as we prepared to leave, "remember that you've done nothing wrong. You defended yourself and your pack. That's not a crime."
"Tell that to Alpha Thorne," I muttered.
The tribunal hall was packed when we arrived. Word had spread about the trial, and wolves from all over the region had come to witness the verdict. I saw Cassidy and the other Silverwood refugees in the crowd, Sarah and Thomas, Emma and Jake, even Margaret and Helena. My pack had come to support me.
The fifteen Alphas took their seats at the raised platform. Alpha Brennan called the room to order.
"After extensive deliberation, we have reached our verdict on the charges against Nessa Gray," he announced. "On the charge of unlawfully killing Alpha Victor Strand"
