Chapter 4 - Five Star Course Night

"Aren't you supposed to be naming the animals?" Samuel said with a mischievous smirk, as if he has caught me doing something naughty as we grabbed our things—more specifically he grabbed his rod and singular fish while I everything else—as he had a smug look.

I turned to look back at him with my own raised eyebrow, blank expression, as I retorted monotonely, "I already have," I smirked, angling my head in just the right angle, the wind blowing my hair just about right.

Thank you Aura Farming, for these amusing moments.

Samuel froze, as if he just watch me morph in a new head out of my torso and tap dance, "that…can't be true, believe me, I have tried so hard to let my brothers and sisters in on me designing some of the animals, and there were a lot of them, all they ever let me do are the stars and the night sky…,"

…I didn't know what to say to that…am I getting something wrong here? I would think designing the literal night sky would be a much higher level duty than making some carbon shaped entities…is it like he was shoved to go paint but his passion is in sculpting?

The closest I could think of it.

That was besides the point however, as I gave him a passive shrug as my hair and eyes shifted back to the orange-yellow amusement, "I have spoken nothing but the truth, every animals presented to me that I have witnessed has been named".

Samuel had this disbelieving, default grin on his face as he looked at me, "Right…ok how about this…orange stripey thingie," he out of nowhere summoned a Siberian Tiger, with vibrant orange fur with black and white colors, "What did you call one mister-"

"Tiger" was my immediate reply as he froze with wide eyes, opening his mouth, but no sound left as he closed his mouth back up.

"Okay…perhaps you could have seen it on your way to the river…THEN HOW ABOUT THIS-"

"Elephant" was my merciless reply as he choked on his own words as he indeed summoned a African elephant.

He looked at me blankly as he cracked his fingers before he wiggled and waggled them with clear magic shimmering out of them.

To speed run apparently.

The number reached into the triple digits until dear Sam was on his knees, out of breath from the spamming he just did to catch me off guard.

My smirk may have looked cold and emotionless, but my hair and eyes will always reveal what I was feeling, as the joy colored them to be almost as bright as the sun.

"Have I managed to convince you of my truthfulness?" Of course I was cheating with prior knowledge but it's not like he needed to know now did he?

I have noticed after several hints, be it the glimpses I could spot in our conversations, or especially when he for a near ten minutes kept on dining praises for catching his first fish…

Samuel had quiet a bit of pride to him, though while he may have quite a bit of it, I am happy to see it doesn't shift into arrogance, looking down on others.

Samuel, finally catching his breath, finally looked up at me with impressed eyes, "…You really did name them all…or at least ones I could think of at the moment…and they are all such good names!!" There was now genuine sense of respect to his posture.

I nodded in response, "I am glad we can get that out of the way…come we must make dinner," as I went over to start grabbing the Wild thyme, Wild dill, Wild garlic, a bit of pine needle zest or wood sorrel for acidity.

Obviously, Expert Cooking, was practically screaming at me as I came across each of the spice and herb I would be using to add taste to the salmon.

"Din-ner?" My angelic friend said the word in confusion, as he tried to think of what it could mean.

Right, I keep forgetting that there were terms that he knew of, but others I was inventing every second I was here…

"When you eat, be it just after the sun rises, Breakfast, right when the sun is in the peak of the sky, Lunch, or right before the sun sets, Dinner," I explained to him.

He blinked as he tested the word out, "Dinner…Din-nER! DINNER! That's a funny word! DINNER!"

Leaving him to his little world with a chuckle, I went off and found myself two rocks, one with a pointier end, and one particular flat, big one.

And just started ramming it over and over again, though the process was painfully, painfully slow I was steadily making a dent into the flat one…though not without in the process gradually breaking away at my pointy rock.

"So what's this supposed to be, Adam?" Samuel, now learning I was full of interesting things hovered over, overlooking my work.

I grunted out, "I want to make dinner, but before I can do that, I need tools, such as a bowl, something that can hold water and other substances inside,".

"…Can I help?"

"Be my guest," it was starting to get tiring anyway, even if I have a good bit more stamina than a average person.

"What is it supposed to looked like?" He questioned, and…that was a little hard to explain as I didn't have the proper words, so I simply cupped my hands and showed him the general shape.

…And seemed to understood it well enough to make one that was good enough, hell it was even as flat as ones with no edges.

I began by preparing the herbs alongside sous chef Samuel.

Wild thyme grew close by in dense mats, and I pinched off several sprigs, crushing them lightly between my fingers to release their sharp, green aroma.

A few steps away, slender stalks of wild dill swayed gently.

He gathered a handful, stripping the feathery leaves free and placing them with the thyme with all the grace of an angel.

Near the edge of the clearing, wood sorrel spread like a carpet of tiny shamrock-shaped leaves.

I plucked a small bunch, tasting one to confirm the bright, lemon-like tang, then added it to the pile.

Finally, we collected several wild garlic shoots, bulbs and greens both, brushing off loose soil and slicing them into thin, fragrant pieces with a stone blade that was provided by my friend here.

So while I had him turning all of my ingredients into paste as he kept repeating ramming a rock over and over the plants in the bowl—it was kinda funny how red he was becoming in excersion—I dealt with the other task I needed done before dark.

Be it gutting the fish, beheading it, deboning it, cleaning the sticks in preparation for implement, sticking it on a stick, descaling it, not particularly in any of that order, but that was done.

Grabbing two dry sticks out of the small pile I have looked all over, a bigger one behind me to later fuel the flames I planned to bring over.

Now if a human were to try this, they would quickly tire out before they came anywhere near close enough to actually start a fire…but I wasn't a normal human was I?

I took two sticks, and just started rubbing one against the other over and over and over again! And kept at it, taking a deep breath and subtly manipulating the air with Airbending to make the process even easier.

Until eventually…I have brought forth fire, the sky steadily turning into twilight, my world once more illuminated but by orange flames that were but embers on the sticks, before I encouraged their growth to be more.

Obviously I made sure that I isolated the fire to not spread where I don't want it too, the classical circle of stones placed around the sticks.

"URIEL?!" I heard Samuel call out, and heard him flap over, only for him to arrive here confused as he stared at my campfire.

"That's…not Uriel's sword…on my lord you discovered Fire! Normal Base Fire! I could have sworn my fellow angels made it especially hard to actually have it produced in the Garden other than the Sun,…you genuinely surprise me more and more Adam, truly," thanks I guess…oh and it looked like the seasoning was done.

"Thank you," to which puffed up line a particularly large, and proud, bird, at a task well done.

Taking the four fishes, I made sure to evenly season each of them as accurately as I could, my skill over cooking guiding me all the way through.

By now, having watched over the growth of the flames, I have finished with the preparations, and started roasting it over the fire, at the proper distance, the proper timing to when to turn or roll, or when to leave it to stay under it the heat.

Until eventually…I knew it was done.

I picked over the salmon that Samuel caught, and passed it over to him, who was waiting in anticipation, but patiently, as he bounced in his seat.

"Here…have a proper taste of your victory," I told him, as he with shaking hands took his prize, staring at it for a few moments…and took a bite out of it.

Samuel paused, eyes wide, mouth full—thankfully closed—with no expression, blank eyes, he slowly chewed, savoring the flavor, before after a minute he swallowed…and legitimately started crying,

"…This is the best thing I have ever tasted," he whispered, before he dug in for more.

I chuckled with a close mouth, more with my chest as I watched him, briefly reminding myself that I was younger one here, literally born yesterday.

"Take it easy…it's not like it's going anywhere, you only have your first once after all," I reminded him though he didn't seem to be paying attention to me.

While I took my own fish, and took a bite out of it…and immediately knew what the fudge it meant to have Nakri as a Trait.

It was godly, like nothing else in this world, I couldn't even imagine something tasting this good back in my own world.

I could taste every ingredient I use, I could taste where I roasted it the best and all the spots I could improve on—though not by much I could see—it was a musical orchestra of flavors of all kinds dancing across my tongue.

After finishing out meals, cleaning it all up, and making sure the fire would be put out…we ended up back at the flower field, laying on the grass…and back to where I began at the beginning of the day, star gazing the sky.

Something I came to realize, all this beauty, all of this wonder…was made by the little guy next to me…giving me an entirely new appreciation for the guy beyond the companionship he showed today.

"What do you mean a drawing?" He asked me confused as I drew his attention to the certain group of stars in the sky.

"Look over there," I pointed at the North Star, "You see how that bright one is shining, now look a little to the right and below, right here and here," as I pointed out several more along the lines.

Samuel traced where my finger pointed at his own work, squinting his eyes as he imagined…before it all suddenly clicked.

GASP!

"It's a bear!!" He whispered shouted as his eyes widened in wonder as he indeed spotted the Ursa Major constellation among his works of wonder.

I did this several more times, with as many constellations that I could I recall, before eventually we simply stopped to gaze at them above.

"…You really are amazing Adam…my siblings completely outdone themselves with you," Sam laid there with his hands behind his head, as he revealed a thought, "…I just wish I could have been a part of that…instead of being a "troublemaker" to them,".

I turned to look at the angel, who suddenly had a former at his face, his gaze blank as he was most likely remembering something.

"But you did," I spoke plainly.

He blinked before looking at me in confusion, "Huh?" As he couldn't understand what I was saying.

I put a hand on his shoulder, before I said the best thing that came to mind, as I gave him a genuine smirk, one with emotion behind it, "You are my friend, my very first friend…and they can't take that from you,"

He stared wide eyed at me, genuinely touched, before he flushed gold—which was interesting thing to know—and looked away, "I-I…don't know what to say,"

"…Thanks, your my friend too, the first one too,"
