Lilian's POV
Panic gripped my chest as Augusto reached for his phone. The absolute last thing I needed was Antonio spilling everything about the Starlight Ball Gala.
It wasn't a huge secret, but Augusto had been so hostile and bitter toward me lately. Learning about my involvement would only fuel his need to control every aspect of my life.
This performance meant real money in my pocket, and I refused to let his grudges destroy this opportunity.
Before Augusto could swipe to answer, I lunged forward and grabbed his wrist.
His dark eyes dropped to where my fingers wrapped around his arm, then slowly traveled back to my face. One eyebrow arched in question. "What now?"
My mind raced for an excuse as the phone continued buzzing. I plastered on what I hoped looked like a casual smile. "Maybe don't answer that?"
Something shifted in his expression, surprise melting into dangerous amusement. "Give me one compelling reason."
