Lilian's POV
My breath caught as I glanced up to find Augusto watching me with those piercing eyes of his. The intensity of his stare made my pulse quicken unexpectedly.
"What is it?" The words came out shakier than I intended.
His gaze sharpened as he moved closer, studying me like I was hiding something dangerous. "You seem awfully fascinated by this Starlight Ball Gala. Please tell me you haven't done something stupid like entering."
"Of course not," I replied quickly, forcing my voice to sound steady and convincing.
A harsh laugh escaped him. "Smart choice. That event isn't meant for someone like you."
The dismissive way he said it stung, but I bit back my questions. What exactly did he mean by that? Why wasn't I good enough for some dance competition? But the cold warning in his tone kept me silent.
Before I could process his words fully, his phone rang. The change in his demeanor was instant and dramatic. His entire body language shifted as he glanced at the caller ID.
