I knew flattery wouldn't work with him. With that glacial stare fixed on me, I couldn't bring myself to offer empty compliments anyway.
Staring into his handsome yet merciless face, I finally forced myself to beg. "Please vote for me. This means everything to me."
A cold laugh escaped his lips, his gaze completely void of compassion. "Does it now?"
That mocking sound cut through me like a blade.
I understood perfectly well that his hatred for me ran too deep for him to ever allow me victory.
Yet I needed that million desperately. After swallowing my pride and working myself to the bone to reach this point, failure wasn't an option I could accept.
Antonio grew restless, snapping at Augusto with obvious irritation. "Quit wasting time and cast your damn vote."
My eyes remained locked on Augusto, knowing full well that if he refused to select number twenty-seven, the prize would be mine.
