Chapter 34 - CHAPTER 34 — Zero Takes Command

Stone shattered inward.

Claws punched through the collapsing wall, followed by snarling bodies forcing their way into the chamber.

"BACK!" Aiden roared.

The students stumbled away as the first monster squeezed through—six legs, bladed mandibles, eyes glowing red like warning lights.

Aiden didn't wait.

He stepped forward.

No Limit Breach.

No flashy buff.

Just timing.

He grabbed a fallen spear, twisted his body, and threw.

The spear punched through the monster's eye and pinned it to the wall behind.

The chamber froze.

Aiden turned sharply. "You—ice user. Seal the floor. Now."

The girl snapped out of her shock and slammed her palms down. Frost surged, locking monster limbs mid-crawl.

"You," Aiden pointed at the E-12. "Shield the left side. Don't chase."

"What about you?" the boy demanded.

Aiden cracked his neck.

"I'm the choke point."

The next wave came fast.

Three monsters forced themselves through the breach at once.

Aiden stepped in, letting the first lunge—

—and pivoted, using its momentum to slam it into the others. Bones cracked. Screeches filled the chamber.

He moved like he'd done this before.

Because he had.

Blood splashed across his arms. Pain flared—and was ignored.

The mark on his chest pulsed once.

The System flickered.

[NOTICE: USER BEHAVIOR DEVIATING FROM SURVIVAL MODEL]

[ADAPTATION… FAILED]

Aiden grinned.

"Yeah," he muttered. "Thought so."

A blade of wind cut past his shoulder—one of the students backing him up. Another monster fell.

But more kept coming.

Too many.

Aiden's breath shortened. His muscles screamed.

He felt it then—

Something watching.

Not hostile.

Evaluating.

The fractured sun mark burned hotter.

[UNCONFIRMED PASSIVE EFFECT TRIGGERED]

Aiden didn't look at the message.

He lunged again.

A monster's claw raked his side—deep. Blood poured.

The E-12 shouted, "You're hit!"

"Still moving!" Aiden snapped.

The ice barrier shattered.

The chamber flooded with bodies.

"This is it!" someone screamed.

Aiden planted his feet.

"No," he said quietly. "This is the line."

The mark flared—

—and the monsters hesitated.

Just a fraction of a second.

Enough.

Aiden roared and drove forward, breaking their formation, forcing them back into the tunnel.

"PUSH!" he yelled.

The students surged behind him, abilities firing wildly.

For ten brutal seconds, they held.

Then—

A horn sounded.

Deep. Resonant.

Not from the monsters.

From the floor itself.

Everything froze.

The creatures backed away, hissing.

The System chimed, cautious.

[NOTICE: TEMPORARY FLOOR DIRECTIVE ISSUED]

[HOSTILES RECALLING]

Aiden sagged against the wall, barely standing.

The students stared at him.

The E-12 finally spoke, voice low.

"…What's your rank?"

Aiden wiped blood from his face.

"Zero."

Silence.

Then the System added one final line:

[RANK UPDATE PENDING — REVIEW REQUIRED]

Aiden closed his eyes.

He knew this wasn't over.

Because somewhere deep in the floor—

Something had noticed how close he came to breaking the rules.
