The towering Wraith let out a roar that made the air ripple. Asteria would've run away, except Kael squeezed her hand—and she hated how that made her brave.

Lunevar raised his blade. "The Starweaver must stay behind us."

Asteria stepped forward. "Nope. Not happening."

Kael groaned. "Asteria, please don't do anything reckless."

"Reckless is my brand, Kael!"

She summoned a spark of magic. It fizzled.

"Oh come on," she hissed. "NOW you choose to behave?!"

The giant Wraith lunged.

Kael pushed her aside, slashing the creature with a blade of moonlight. Lunevar flanked it from the opposite side. Puff leapt onto the Wraith's head and bit it with surprising enthusiasm.

But nothing worked—the creature absorbed the attacks like smoke swallowing flame.

Worse, the smaller Wraiths swarmed around them, screeching.

Asteria backed up until her shoulders hit a crystal pillar. Her heart hammered. She lifted her arms, trying again to summon her magic.

"Come on," she whispered. "I really need you right now."

But the anxiety strangled her focus. Her hands shook.

Then Kael's voice cut through the chaos.

"Asteria! Look at me!"

She did.

His eyes glowed—bright silver, full of determination and something else… something warm, something she didn't understand yet.

"You're stronger than you think," he said. "Your magic listens to your heart. So trust yourself. Trust me."

Her breath caught.

The giant Wraith roared again, charging.

Asteria closed her eyes.

Focused.

Listened.

And something inside her clicked.

Her power wasn't wild—she'd been afraid of it. But fear didn't control her. She controlled it.

A surge of pure silver energy burst from her chest, swirling like stardust around her hands.

"Oh," she whispered. "That feels… new."

Then she unleashed it.

A wave of radiant starfire exploded outward, tearing through the attacking Wraiths like sunlight through shadows. The giant Wraith recoiled, shrieking as its form cracked and shattered.

When the light faded, the battlefield was silent.

Lunevar stared at her in awe. "Starweaver indeed…"

Asteria wobbled. "Okay… that might've been too much… I feel like I just punched the universe."

Kael caught her before she collapsed.

"You did amazing," he whispered.

Her face flushed as she leaned into him, breathless.

But before their moment could deepen, the sky above them tore open—

—and something far darker began to emerge.
