Irina's POV
After barely taking a few steps, I drove my foot hard into Louise's arm.
She tumbled backward into the snow, wailing as she gripped her injured limb. Muddy slush from snow and debris streaked across her face, turning her into a complete disaster.
"Touch her again and I'll aim for your face," I said icily, lifting Sloane into my arms before sliding into the car.
By the time Louise regained her bearings, we were already miles away. "You bitch! I'll get you back for this," she shrieked from where she lay crumpled in the snow, too hurt to move.
I caught a glimpse of Louise's unhinged expression in my rearview mirror but didn't waste another thought on her. My focus shifted to examining Sloane, starting emergency care right away.
"Sloane, you're safe now. Nothing bad will happen to you while I'm around," I whispered to comfort her.
Snow continued cascading past the windows, each flake heavier than the last.
