Wilson's POV
The Brent family fell apart because of Mindy. Alexander would've killed her a hundred times over if not for his father. Every night brought dreams of Sadie suffering somewhere, asking why he never searched for her.
Guilt consumed him for years. When he wasn't working, Alexander spent his days traveling, hunting for any trace of Sadie.
Thinking about it, I watched Alexander's face grow heavy, like a weight pressed against his chest.
"She wants to change the engagement," I said flatly, my eyes narrowing as something dark flickered through them.
"In her dreams," Alexander snarled, crushing his cigarette and flicking it aside. "I've been too soft on her. Let her get too cocky."
I kept my voice steady. "Don't worry. Nothing's changing."
Alexander's deadly expression softened slightly. He slapped my shoulder and laughed. "Damn, didn't expect that. You're really loyal to Sadie, aren't you?"
