Chapter 38 - Chapter 38

Asgard.

The King of Asgard had been killed. The King was dead.

Inside the Asgardian palace, silence fell over everyone.

After all, regicide was the gravest of crimes.

If Loki harbored dark ambitions…if he sought to usurp the throne, it wouldn't be entirely surprising.History is written by the victors. And if he ultimately succeeded in claiming the throne… that would be remarkable.

"Let's go somewhere else to say our farewells," one might think. He could then live another thousand years in carefree peace.

But if Loki truly killed his father…the uproar among those present would be immense.A kingdom's king… capable of such an act toward his own father! And the people living in that realm…what would become of them?

Loki's mind raced in panic. He clearly realized the gravity of the situation. So, he stared at his father, Odin, eyes wide with fear, repeatedly explaining:

"Father, it's impossible! This must be that strange screen interfering between us. I always obeyed you—I could never kill you!"

Odin paid him no mind. After all, as the All-Father, he had long foreseen his own death. So he did not grieve over it in the usual sense.Having lived for millennia, he was simply weary of life.As the saying goes, when one dies, the birds fly to the sky.He would not die for thousands of years.

Odin did not truly care about his life or death in the future. What truly concerned him was the timing of his death.

By his premonition, it should occur seven or eight years later, at least after the Battle of New York.

But… looking at the video, it was clear that Thor had not yet joined the Avengers. They had not yet met. This proved the event happened before the Battle of New York.

How could he die at that point?

It was strange. Something was amiss.

Odin slowly addressed those around him:

"It's fine. Keep watching the video."

S.H.I.E.L.D.

Coulson led the troublesome Thor into a bright, white interrogation room.He was eager to know who this man was, capable of dispatching their highly trained agents like supermarket security guards.

Coulson: "From my experience, only someone with proper training could defeat them like this.Tell me—where did you train?Bar Christian? Afghanistan? You look more like a mercenary. Where are you from? South Africa?"

Thor turned his face, giving no answer.

Coulson continued:"Some organizations pay handsomely for elite mercenaries like you. Who are you?"

Thor raised his head, eyes brimming with impatience.

Coulson: "No matter who you are, we will eventually get the information we need. That's what we do best."

At that moment, Coulson's radio crackled. He stepped out, and just as the door closed…

Loki appeared inside the white interrogation room.He looked at Thor, sadness in his eyes.

Thor's heart leapt at the sight of his brother appearing from nowhere.Since arriving on Earth, he had endured so much injustice.

Thor: "Loki! How are you here?"Loki: "I had to see you."Thor: "What happened? Is this about Jotunheim? Let me explain to Father…"

Loki shook his head decisively.

Loki: "Our father is dead."

Thor frowned, mouth slightly open in disbelief.

Thor: "What?"Loki: "Exile and the threat of war made it impossible for him to endure. Don't blame yourself. I know you love him. I tried to reason with him—but he wouldn't listen.Even knowing you could not lift it, placing Mjolnir before you—it was cruel."

Thor fell silent, drowning in grief.

Loki continued calmly:

Loki: "The burden of the throne now falls upon me."

Hearing this unexpected declaration, Thor lifted his head to face Loki.He intended to congratulate his brother, but the words stuck in his throat.

Thor: "Can I go home…?"

Loki raised an eyebrow, his gaze filled with compassion.

Loki: "The truce with Jotunheim is permanent exile for you."

A tear slid down Thor's cheek, panic in his eyes.

Thor: "Isn't there any other way…?"

Loki cut him off:

Loki: "Mother would not allow it either. I came to bid you farewell, brother. Forgive me."

Thor: "No, I should be the one apologizing. Thank you for coming to see me."

Loki: "Then, farewell, brother."

Loki left the interrogation room.Heartbroken, Thor was left alone in the sterile white room.

As the door closed, a faint smile tugged at Loki's lips—a smile of success.

Asgard.

Watching the video firsthand, Thor felt nauseated. He had now lost both his power and Mjolnir. He was one step away from the worst moments depicted in the video. He had merely been "permanently exiled" once. Thus, the Thor in the video pitied himself deeply.

Especially when he heard Loki say…His mother, Frigga, would not allow him to return home. His heartbreak deepened.

"How much trouble have I caused the future? How much chaos have I wrought that led to my father's death? Even my mother no longer wishes to see me.""If this screen didn't exist today, would I still have chosen this path in the future?""Does this prove that both my present and past selves are not as righteous as I once believed…?"

Thor, always impulsive and reckless, fell into rare silence, reflecting on the future he would endure.

Odin watched, vaguely understanding why he had permanently exiled Thor.It was the future Thor, reckless and warlike, who, when unobserved, took a few companions to Jotunheim to confront the Frost Giants.

Though seemingly helpful in addressing enemy resources, this action disrupted the diplomatic balance between the two nations.

Though Asgard always considered Jotunheim a threat and had prepared extensively,on the surface, the two kingdoms still maintained peace.Ordinary citizens wanted to kill each other privately, but publicly, they remained civil.

Thor, heir to Asgard's throne, failed to understand this principle.Impulsive, reckless, and single-minded in achieving his goals, he went to the enemy's land, causing countless casualties—undeniable provocation.

Peace could have continued. In a few years, sending Loki, of Frost Giant lineage, to Jotunheim for diplomacy could have ensured lasting stability.

It wouldn't have mattered that Loki alone carried Frost Giant blood. To Jotunheim, he would simply be seen as Odin's son, the prince of Asgard.

If Loki had been sent as a diplomat, the outcome would have leaned toward peace.

But Thor, the impetuous warrior, satisfied his childish desire for battle, becoming the spark that ignited the conflict.Tensions between the two kingdoms escalated, exposing the flaw in Odin's plan.

Future Thor would surely be furious:

"Then the title should have been: 'Odin is Dead, and the Killer is Thor.'"

"And Loki? Where was his triumphant smile before leaving?"

Odin could not understand. He turned his gaze back to the video, anticipating the next scene.
