Chapter 4 - family roots

2017-2018. First class was a minor year in Abdullah's life. There was no more inside time, but he didn't mind. Every day at school felt the same, but he liked the routine.

At home things were steady. Every so often they would get a call from their family. It would brighten up the whole household. His grandparents always asked about school. He wasn't good at talking on the phone, but he loved hearing their voices.

Abdullah would go on about his day to his grandma, every little thing he learnt or did at school. she loved to listen smiling brightly.

Abdullah had two aunts one was older than his mom and one was younger. His big aunt the older one was patient kind and motherly. Her son was his favourite cousin. He would always ask Abdullah when they would come to visit again.

His younger aunt was more funny, cool, smart and brutally honest. She was the type to always stand her ground. She felt more like a cool older sister to Abdullah then an aunt. Her parents on the other hand felt like a second set of grandparents to Abdullah.

They were both kind souls. His second "grandma" was a lot older than his actual grandma but somehow always full of life. His second "grandpa" was his great uncle. He was a frail old man with awful vision. He looked like the wind could carry him away.

Life changed when Abdullah's mother became pregnant again. Abdullah didn't know how to feel about being an older brother, he didn't really understand what was going on.

With the baby she wasn't in the state to take care of her other kids, so Abdullah's dad had to do a lot. Cooking for them making their school lunches waking up early despite long night shifts.

He had to be everywhere at once almost. Abdullah often didn't get to spend much time with his father, so he treasured the time they spent together. He liked talking in the mornings and when getting dropped to school.

One night Abdullah was awake too late normally he would've been sent to bed by now. But his father didn't send him to bed and gave him his phone and let Abdullah play until he fell asleep from exhaustion. Abdullah never forgot this small moment from his dad.

Then came the day his sister was born. Abdullah didn't remember the details just the feeling. Holding his baby sister in his arms she was so light and small. He couldn't wait to see her all grown up. Abdullah was starting to see how every joy and bruise in his home traced back to the same place. his
