Chapter 37 - Hive City

So it's you!

Adam suddenly understood.

This name was practically legendary!

The Savior of Armageddon, one of the three chosen Political Commissars of the Empire, the arch-nemesis (and star-crossed lover) of the Beast Snagga, the eternal nightmare of the greenskins, Old Bale-Eye...

Now that he thought about it, there were still about fifty years until the Second Armageddon War, the battle that elevated Yarrick to legendary status.

Since this place was within the Segmentum Solar, his presence here was indeed reasonable.

However, this fully explained why this Astra Militarum force was so strong, not only did their reinforcements arrive incredibly promptly, but they were also able to repeatedly repel several greenskin attacks, even with the support of the Hive City's industrial capacity.

As for the viper tank that looked very familiar to Adam, it should be Yarrick's personal vehicle, the

"Who are you people?"

Yarrick repeated his previous question, his brows gradually furrowing.

After he announced his name, the leader of this small team looked at him with a very strange and peculiar gaze, as if they had heard his name before.

But that wasn't right either.

He considered himself just an ordinary Political Commissar in the Imperial Astra Militarum, nothing special.

Could it be that he had dealt with them before?

But this raised another question.

Yarrick believed that even if he had some standing in the Empire, being a Political Commissar, he was in some sense a person of importance.

But the problem was, who were the people in the opposing team?

A Living Saint, an Inquisitor, and an Imperial Guard Elite.

This lineup, it could only be said, instantly dispelled most of Yarrick's doubts.

Honestly, if heretics were to try and deceive him, and could produce such a lineup for disguise, Yarrick would truly concede.

The credibility of this lineup was so strong that if they claimed to be heretics, Yarrick would have to consider whether he should just execute himself.

However, what was rather peculiar was that these three influential figures in the Empire openly guarded the person in the middle, and seemed to implicitly obey his orders.

This could no longer be described as merely abnormal.

Even a High Lord of Terra probably wouldn't have such an honor.

Adam pondered for a moment; this question was indeed a bit difficult to explain.

After all, a certain Emperor had pulled him into this universe without giving him any initial identity.

"You can call me Adam, a noble from Terra, and I am currently, at the request and with the support of an elder in my family, beginning to hunt down various enemies in the galaxy that threaten humanity and the Empire."

As soon as these words left his mouth, let alone Yarrick, even the three people standing behind Adam felt so shocked by the statement that they almost couldn't maintain their expressions.

Yarrick was silent for a moment.

Even he, who was usually so resolute and almost humorless, felt an unimaginable absurdity at this moment.

Never mind, at least he was willing to humor him.

Yarrick sighed softly in his heart, then cut to the chase and switched the topic to a new subject.

"What is your purpose here? How can we assist you?"

As an Imperial Political Commissar from a Schola Progenium, Yarrick understood that every department in the Imperial administration had its secrets.

Encountering such an abnormal situation, he knew very well that choosing to ignore it and pretend not to know anything would be more beneficial to him, and better serve the Emperor.

Ignorance was sometimes a protection, especially when he thought of the strange rumors circulating on Armageddon; the more he understood this principle.

Adam couldn't help but breathe a sigh of relief.

As expected of Old Bale-Eye, he was very efficient.

It also saved him from having to explain anything further.

"Nothing special, our purpose here is quite simple. I need your Astra Militarum to join us in conquering that fallen Hive City, killing the Ork Warboss, and then..."

"With all due respect, that's impossible."

Yarrick interrupted Adam decisively.

Oh, this.

Adam paused involuntarily.

It's truly you, with that blunt emotional intelligence... "Currently, none of the conditions for us to conquer that Hive City have been met. In other words, this is an impossible mission."

"Even with Astartes joining?"

"Even with Astartes joining."

Yarrick emphasized, "That Hive City is very difficult to fight in, extremely difficult."

"Watch your words, Political Commissar."

The Imperial Guard Elite standing behind Adam spoke at this moment, "You are now showing signs of cowardice..."

He didn't finish his sentence.

A slight glance from Adam interrupted the Imperial Guard Elite's questioning.

In this regard, he naturally trusted Yarrick.

After all, this venerable figure's legendary battle took place in Hades Hive City on the planet Armageddon.

He stubbornly held out, relying on a bunch of PDF and underhive gangs, against the main forces of the Beast Snagga and a large number of greenskin elite units, until the Space Marine reinforcements arrived.

While this was an extreme case, it also demonstrated how difficult a Hive City could be to conquer under a skilled Commander.

"So, what do you think are the difficulties in conquering this Hive City? What conditions need to be met?"

Trust in a professional made Adam feel that he could listen to Yarrick's opinion.

"First, the void shield. Our current firepower is completely unable to break through this barrier. This means that only those cunning xenos can attack us, while our artillery cannot reach them above their heads."

Yarrick was blunt.

"Mm-hmm, what else?"

Adam said, a pen and paper appearing in his hand at some point, and he diligently took notes.

Yarrick's eyes widened.

He was very confident in his eyesight, especially in close-quarters combat.

However, Yarrick was stunned that he hadn't noticed how Adam had produced these items.

After some thought, he swallowed the question.

"Your strike cruiser indeed provides us with unparalleled orbital superiority, but its firepower still cannot threaten the greenskins."

"Also, Space Marines, in my experience, are indeed very powerful in breaking through defenses, but this Ork Warboss is very cunning and seasoned. The outside of the Hive City has been set up as a killing field; once you fall in, you will be met with their precise artillery fire."

Yarrick paused, then continued, "Of course, regarding breaking through this outer defense line, with your support, it's actually enough. But what then?"

"The terrain of the Hive City is intricate and complex. No one knows its layout inside, and there aren't enough armored vehicles to fight street battles with those damned greenskins right now."

"Our armored regiment's roster only includes Leman Russ Tanks and Chimeras, as well as two viper tanks as holy relics, and they are all even facing supply shortages."

"No Hellhounds, no stormswords, no stormlords... Damn it, those Departmento Munitorum frakkers! We had no idea the Hive City had fallen before we arrived!"

As he spoke, Yarrick began to complain.

However, this time Adam interrupted him, a smile appearing on his face: "Are you saying that as long as these conditions are met, there's a possibility of conquering the Hive City, right?"
