Chapter 38 - Priest

Yarrick, quite uncharacteristically, fell silent.

Even he couldn't immediately grasp the other party's words; his mind was a galaxy of confusion.

After a long moment, Yarrick finally spoke:

"If I haven't misunderstood... you mean you have the capability to meet my requirements?"

Adam was not surprised by Yarrick's incredulous reaction.

"I believe I have made myself very clear; I can meet all the conditions you mentioned."

"Including those Super-heavy Tanks?"

"Including those Super-heavy Tanks."

A similar conversation occurred again, but this time, the relationship between the two was completely reversed.

"Could you elaborate on exactly what kind of Super-heavy Tanks you need?"

Adam inquired.

Could it be that the Space Marine strike cruiser had similar equipment supplies?

Finally, Yarrick gave up trying to figure out the reason.

"Alright then, I'll be direct. First, our regiment is outnumbered, so we need armored units capable of quickly clearing clustered light infantry. Therefore, we need at least one stormlord."

"To completely breach the Xenos' defenses and meet the requirement of destroying enemy positions in urban warfare, a stormsword is also indispensable, and we need at least two units."

"Furthermore, due to the complex terrain of the Hive City, we will need some Hellhound Armored Vehicles, five or more."

Adam wrote them down on a piece of paper, one by one.

"Anything else?"

"...That's all."

Yarrick already felt that his demands were extremely excessive.

Such equipment is considered extremely rare.

For the Departmento Munitorum, it would be more cost-effective to simply transfer in several infantry regiments to grind against the Orks than to deploy this rare equipment.

But for Yarrick, as a Political Commissar, he was truly unwilling to let the lives of his soldiers be wasted in the Hive City, especially since it might be an ineffective waste.

'Life is the Emperor's currency; use it well.'

Adam looked up, his gaze strange as he looked at him.

"Do you truly only need this small amount of equipment?"

"Huh?"

Yarrick couldn't help but stare blankly.

What is this... some kind of Terran aristocratic irony I don't understand?

In any case, he did not take the statement literally.

Every Super-heavy Tank is extremely rare because the technology required to manufacture these massive units is increasingly scarce in the rigid and corrupt Imperium, and they are cherished like holy relics by Astra Militarum armored regiments.

How could they be available just by asking?

"Don't worry, if these are your only requirements, they can easily be met without incident."

Adam put away his paper and pen and placed them in his pocket. "But before this, I'd like to ask if your armored regiment has an attached Tech-Priest. I wish to discuss this matter with him."

"Of course we do."

Yarrick immediately replied, "Without maintenance from a Mechanicus Priest, our armor cannot operate."

"The attached Tech-Priest of the 252nd Regiment is named Demian. He should currently be performing routine maintenance at the rear Logistics Base. I can have someone guide you to him."

"I appreciate the trouble."

Adam nodded.

Then, as if suddenly remembering something, he signaled to the Custodian.

"Leonardo, you stay here and protect Political Commissar Yarrick. I currently have sufficient security personnel with me."

Leonardo nodded and stood motionless beside Yarrick.

Soon, following the Political Commissar's instruction, a soldier of the Armageddon Steel Legion led the way, guiding Adam and his group toward the rear base.

On the way, Sibylla turned to Lord Adam and asked, "Lord Adam, is your plan to use the memories and knowledge of that Adeptus Mechanicus Priest as a Blueprint to create usable equipment?"

"Of course."

Adam was not surprised by her perceptiveness, as he had done this before. "As long as we arm this Astra Militarum force and amplify their lethality, when they enter the Hive City, they will put significant pressure on that Green Skin Warboss. Then, on the chaotic battlefield, not only will the location of that Ork Warboss be exposed, but the probability of a successful Decapitation Strike will also greatly increase."

"However, there is a problem here."

Suddenly, Lucia, who had been silent, spoke up. "That Tech-Priest likely won't comply with your request. They consistently value the secrecy of information and knowledge more than their own lives."

"Or perhaps, do you intend to control him and forcibly peek into his memories? That should also be a viable method."

"It won't come to that."

Adam shook his head. "I guarantee that, according to my plan, that Tech-Priest will willingly contribute his knowledge."

At this moment, his eyes were bright and full of certainty, a display that made Sibylla and Lucia inwardly curse that something bad was coming.

It seems this Contractor of the Emperor likely has a new idea.

The guiding soldier walked quickly, leading them into the Astra Militarum's logistics support base.

After passing the Checkpoint inspection with extreme efficiency, Adam and his group proceeded through the Logistics Base.

The further they advanced, the clearer the sound of mechanical transmissions and engineering circuits became in their ears.

After walking for another distance, the location of the Mechanicus Priest finally appeared in Adam's sight.

In an open area, a viper tank undergoing maintenance was quietly placed. This should be the second tank of their armored regiment mentioned by Yarrick; it clearly did not participate in the current campaign but was left in the Logistics Base for repair and maintenance.

Among them, a Tech-Priest with obvious mechanical augmentation marks on his body and wearing Red Robes was standing next to the viper tank.

He held an Axe of the Omnissiah, and flickering light shone on his body as he directed several Servitors to perform repairs on the tank in a manner unknown to outsiders.

Sensors detected the entry of outsiders, and the Tech-Priest slowly turned his head.

"Basic Translation Module activated: Greetings. Political Commissar Yarrick has sent me a Communication explaining your identities. Now, please explain the purpose of your visit."

The moment his words left his mouth, Sibylla, using her Psyker Sixth Sense, suddenly felt that something unpleasant was about to happen.

Unfortunately, it was too late.

Adam confidently stepped forward and said crisply.

"You may call me Adam. My identity is the Agent of the Omnissiah.

In the name of the Omnissiah, I require you to provide me with Blueprints related to Super-heavy Tanks."

The moment he said this, the surroundings immediately fell silent.

Even though most of the Tech-Priest's face was covered by Full Mechanical Structures, the other two present could sense that the Mechanicus Priest was not in a good mood, judging by the white vapor gradually venting around him.

Simply put, he red-lined.
