The further Joy Dalton walked into the living room, the more she felt that something was off.
Mrs. Sterling wore an expression of fury. Aurora didn't even glance at her, instead nestling into Mrs. Sterling's arms and crying her eyes out. Timothy Sterling stood awkwardly in the middle of the living room, while Sharon Dalton cowered timidly behind him.
Joy Dalton's heart sank. 'Did Sharon bully Aurora and make her cry? Is that why Mrs. Sterling is so furious? And is Timothy standing in the way to keep Mrs. Sterling from punishing Sharon?'
As this thought crossed her mind, a smile touched the corners of Joy Dalton's eyes. 'It seems Timothy still cares most about their daughter, Sharon. That must be why he's stepping up to defend her.'
The more Joy Dalton thought about it, the more certain she became. The thought of having Timothy here to back her up erased her fear, and the smile on her face grew even more radiant.
