Nora's POV
"Gideon?" I call out again, my voice cracking with worry. "Please, talk to me."
His head snaps up suddenly, and I stumble backward. Those warm chocolate brown eyes I know so well have turned pitch black, like staring into an endless void.
"Gideon?" I whisper, shaking my head frantically. "No, this can't be happening."
His palm remains pressed against the earth, and that's when I sense it. The raw power of the Watson line pulses beneath the ground, sending vibrations through my bones. I leap away from him, staring at the dirt in horror. The energy is invisible but undeniable, and it's already claimed him.
The banshee's shriek pierces the night again, but Gideon doesn't even twitch. He rises to his feet with an unnatural smoothness that makes my skin crawl.
"Can you hear me?" My heart pounds against my ribs as panic sets in.
