Chapter 7 - Fracture

Sebastian arrived at his job with 10 minutes to spare, once he got there he had a realization but was relieved to see that no one had noticed him appear out of thin air.

"I shouldn't appear in public places like this, someone might see and report me." He thought.

He cleared his mind and got to work shortly after, taking photos of the outside of the building. The photos were going to be used for some billboards and Sebastian knew this. He couldn't care less, he just wanted to get the day over with.

He kept taking photos until thought struck him.

"What if I can make time go by quicker?"

He looked at his hand and whispered, "It's night time." However nothing happened.

He thought that looking at himself wouldn't make his power work, so looked at his surroundings and tried again, but the result was the same.

"So I can't control time. That sucks." He sighed, "Still, I really can't be complaining."

Sebastian's brain went numb through the entire time he worked, he spoke to nobody and nobody bothered to speak to him.

Time was distorted for Sebastian. Before he knew it, night had already fallen but at the same time it felt like an eternal punishment for him.

The instant his time was up, Sebastian, even without using his powers practically teleported to the people in charge, informing them that he was taking hisn leave.

The weather was pleasant that day, a cool breeze pushed through the streets of the city which was a rare occurrence where he lived.

Rather than heading home, Sebastian thought it'd be best to eat outside, there was plenty of food back at his apartment but a force inside of him made him crave something else.

"I am a-" He stopped abruptly mid sentence.

The pleasant breeze and the faint concern of accidentally getting spotted made him abandon the idea of using his power to reach his destination.

So Sebastian went on his way to a nearby gyro restaurant, looking down and getting lost in thought while kicking pebbles he found on the road.

He arrived at the restaurant and calmly ordered and paid for his food, still blankly staring while doing so which caught a confused look from the cashier.

As he waited he felt his phone buzz in his pocket, somebody was calling him, it was Emily. He took the phone out and stared at it for a short moment then answered.

"Hey, Sebastian, how are you?" A serious yet concerned voice came from the phone.

"I'm fine, why are you calling?"

"I need to talk to you. I saw something online, you surely know what I'm talking about."

"Stop acting so mysteriously and spill it already." He said angrily.

"I need to know if that was you. Please stop being a jackass and talk to me, talk to us, we need answers." Emily answered, almost cutting him off.

"You mean the flying thing on the news?" Yeah that was me."

There was a moment of silence between them.

"... Please tell us, Sebastian, what's happening to you?"

Sebastian hung up immediately and shut off his phone.

He felt disgusted with himself for doing so, but also felt a weight come off of him.

The food arrived shortly after, he didn't enjoy eating as much as he thought would, feeling guilty over hanging up on Emily but not having the courage or energy to call her back.

With his back slightly curved and looking down, Sebastian exited the restaurant without saying a word.

He regretted eating outside and started looking for an empty place to disappear where no one could see.

Sebastian dragged his feet across the ground as he walked aimlessly, lost in thought and remembering how badly he had treated his friends.

His wallowing was interrupted when a loud and demanding voice called out behind him.

Sebastian was flustered at the sudden aggressiveness and turned to look. He saw someone he didn't recognize wearing dark clothes riding a motorcycle stopping near him.

He knew exactly what was happening and all color drained from his face.

"Hey man, you know what time it is?" The man on the motorcycle asked in a smug voice.

"N-no, I don't." He replied, his voice wavering.

"Come on man, I know you do. You must have a phone don't ya?"

"I said I don't know. "

This angered the man. He got off his motorcycle and reached under his shirt.

He walked up to Sebastian and pulled out a gun, aiming it at his back.

"Everything you got. Now." Said the man.

Sebastian snapped once he heard this. Crime was all too common where he lived, he loathed it with a burning passion and despised the people committing it even more.

In an instant all worry washed away from him, instead, he started to feel pity for the guy attempting to rob him.

"Go to hell, scum, I'm not giving you shit."

"Listen here you son a bitch, are you out of your mind!?" The robber screamed, getting agitated.

"That's a good question, still, I wouldn't happen to know the answer to that myself."

Sebastian answered calm yet arrogantly.

"Bitch, give me one good reason why you're acting all crazy before I decide to shoot you."

Sebastian turned his head to the man pointing a gun at him and smiled.

"Well, because I'm bulletproof." He said as he lowered his vision to himself.

The robber's face contorted in anger even more, and without hesitation, he pulled the trigger.

To his shock, however, the bullet stopped once it hit Sebastian, as if hitting an immovable wall.

Seeing the bullet completely stop, the robber turned his gaze towards Sebastian. He was still smiling as if nothing happened.

"What the fuck…" He muttered.

He turned to run away towards his motorcycle but Sebastian grabbed his shoulder.

"Oh? Where are you going? You seemed so eager to be with me just a second ago." Sebastian called out to the robber in the same smug voice he first spoke to him with.

"What the fuck are you!? Get away from me, demon!" He pleaded.

"Ouch, demon really is a harsh word to call someone. I'm just a human being, no need to be scared of me. You're the one with the gun after all."

Sebastian started to laugh.

"Stay the hell away from me!" The robber said as he unloaded his entire magazine at Sebastian before falling to the ground.

He started to cry as he saw Sebastian walk out from the rain of bullets unscathed while still approaching him.

"Please… don't kill me… please." He begged.

"Worry not, my dear! Killing you is not in my plans! Sebastian stared at the robber begging for his life on the ground and flashed him a grin, "Considering your arms and legs are already broken."

A loud crack could be heard through the street followed by a gutteral scream.

Sebastian bent down to the criminal's level.

"Shhh, be quiet, someone might hear you." Sebastian taunted him "You might break some more bones if you don't stop."

The fear of death flashed through the robber's eyes as he stopped himself from screaming while enduring unbearable pain.

"Sit tight, oh frail one. I'll be back shortly."

Then Sebastian disappeared, leaving the robber confused, scared and screaming in pain.

Sebastian reappeared 5 minutes later, wearing gloves and holding a piece of paper, a pen and some tape.

He found the man screaming for help and his expression hardened.

He bent down again then spoke coldly.

"I told you to stop screaming." He let out a disappointed sigh, "I'm not that cruel so I won't break more of your bones. However, you can't scream anymore."

The robber who was previously begging and rambling suddenly went quiet.

"See? Peace and quiet is much better."

Sebastian sat down on the floor and wrote something down on the piece of paper he brought with him.

He tried taping the piece of paper to the robber who kept flailing around which angered Sebastian.

Sebastian went up close to the robber's ear and calmly whispered, "Move and you die."

The man went stiff immediately.

Sebastian smiled at him then thoroughly taped the paper to the man's chest.

"Criminal scum." Was written on the paper with an arrow pointing to the man's face

"Would you like me to call the police?" Asked Sebastian in a mockingly sweet voice.

The robber nodded his head in affirmation.

Sebastian laughed again.

"You'd love to get some help wouldn't you? You poor thing."

"You didn't hesitate to shoot me, you've done this before. Surely the people who you've hurt before would've wanted help too."

He stood up and stared at the man, expressionless and cold.

"Goodbye." He said, then disappeared, leaving the wounded robber lying on the ground without any way to scream for help.

Back his living room, Sebastian felt a sense of power he had never felt before. He smiled then continued on with his night.

Hours later, the man was found early in the morning by someone on a walk who then called the police. He was montionless, unable to cry or scream, but still alive.
