"Wow, Aunt. You really ….." Berth didn't dare finish her words as she shifted her focus to Amabel and happily asked, "Senior, since you are my Aunt's friend, should I call you senior or Aunt?" stunning the two.
"You …." Beatrix was at a loss of words as she looked at the niece she had underestimated. What kind of question was that?
Amabel on the other hand chuckled lightly as she felt a wave of helplessness washing over her but nonetheless still responded, "You can call me whatever you want. What makes you feel comfortable, I will be fine with it."
And when Berth heard that, her eyes lit up as her mind quickly analyzed the two options.
Calling Amabel senior was good and pleasing but that would only limit their relationship. If she brings this relationship much closer and call her aunt just like Beatrix, then their bond will deepen. She will be able to chat and go out with Amabel without finding excuses.
Even if she has to tolerate Beatrix for her idol, Berth felt that it was worth it. With those quick calculations done, she beamingly called Amabel, "I will call you Auntie Amabel, then. You won't mind, right?" her tone sounding a bit coquettish, which made goosebumps rise on Beatrix's skin.
What kind of schemes was Berth cooking now?
How could Amabel mind when she was the one who gave Berth the floor?
Moreover, having the same title with Beatrix would make things much easier than different titles. Besides, she had never had a niece nearly her age. This will be surely interesting.
"No, I don't mind," she responded smiling, feeling much at ease after accepting this unexpected friendship and relationship, "It's just a bit unfortunate that I don't have anything that I can give you as a meeting gift. How about I give you something later?"
And as an elder, she should give a meeting gift. At least, that's what she grew up knowing.
She didn't think that she would recognize anyone as a niece, so where would she get the gift from?
Either way, Berth didn't mind, gift or no gift, the fact that her idol was now closer to her, she was very happy.
"Haha, Auntie Amabel, don't worry about the gift. What matter is this relationship," she happily chimed before looking at her other auntie and said, "Auntie Beatrix, since we have met, how about we go over there? The others are over that side," recalling the reason why she was searching for the other in the first place.
Beatrix didn't make things difficult and readily agreed. Things have gotten out of hand and her mind was reeling and on fire. She needed to cool down.
Berth, after seeing her aunt agreeing, happy took Amabel's arm and said affectionately, "Auntie Amabel, how about I take you there?" and didn't bother to wait for her real auntie, before pulling Amabel away.
Beatrix shocking watched as her friend was stolen right under her nose and chuckled disbelievingly making the young wives to find the situation quite hilarious and funny.
"This … your niece must really like Amabel!"
"If she didn't like her, would she act so ….. that was completely unexpected."
"Tell me about it!"
Beatrix couldn't refute their remarks at all. seeing Amabel getting father and farther away, she turned to these young wives and apologetically said, "I am afraid I need to catch up with those two. Let's have tea another time," before walking away, her pace a bit sped up.
The other young wives didn't blame her and readily let her go, before starting to gossip cheerfully.
"That Amabel girl, judging from Berth's words, she should be a senior, right?" and the topic of the day was none other than Amabel, who at the moment was busy sighing regretfully at how she ended up on this pirate ship.
Damn. Berth was quite a chatter and very enthusiastic too.
"Auntie Bel, you see that woman, she is ....." on their way, Berth introduced her to anyone she knew and in detail.
While she was noisy, Amabel managed to learn more about these women, it was quite helpful.
As they approached the group, Berth said were going to be with, her focus was stolen by the new friend she made earlier Daphne. She was still with her other friend, Mrs. Langdale, the woman who looked down on others and wasn't ashamed of doing so.
As she looked in that direction, Berth noticed and happen to spot who she was looking at.
"Do you know them?"
Amabel responded vaguely, hoping for Berth to share some details, "greeted them earlier when we arrived."
Berth looked surprisingly at Amabel, and chirped, "You met those women? Damn, those two can be considered to be the cream of the creams," and started gossiping about them.
"What do you mean about that? Are they some kind of big shots or its their husbands?"
Seeing Amabel interested, Berth happily shared the details.
"Let's start with Philippa. You should be aware that she is Mrs. Langdale, right?"
Amabel nodded as she was aware of that.
"She is married to the third master of the Langdale family. The Langdale family are one of the top four rich families in the city. Their business empire span throughout all industries. Not only that but her husband happens to own his own company and is quite a contender. His business prowess is on par with that of the current CEO.
Who in the city doesn't want to be associated with the Langdale's? As for her, she was lucky that she was Mr. Langdale's childhood sweetheart. That's how she managed to snag him and married him when they were done with their university. The two have been married for over a decade."
The more Amabel listened, the more in awe she became. No wonder why Philippa was like that. She has the capital to act arrogant, but wasn't she a bit too pretentious doing all that while relying on a man?
As Berth narrated that, they shortly reached the group, making Berth to temporarily stop her gossiping and started introducing Amabel to the group.
