Chapter 9 - Chapter 9 Winter is coming

The medieval Pokémon world was not so different from the medieval real world in some aspects.

Aside from the addition of creatures called Pokémon, the two were almost identical, categorizing people into different social strata.

Dukes, nobles, Commoners, slaves... The Old King's retinue for his son included thirty-five slaves specifically for housework and heavy labor.

Cliff was one of them.

He was originally from another kingdom, but after its defeat, he became a slave of the Eindoak Kingdom.

He followed the caravan here with the other slaves, and after this series of events, Cliff felt his life was hopeless.

Not only had he become a slave, but he had also fallen into such a predicament, unable to eat his fill, without warm clothes, and even possibly freezing to death.

Perhaps it wouldn't be long before he would leave this world forever on a cold morning.

Cliff thought to himself as he gnawed on a piece of black bread.

Just then, a commotion suddenly erupted from not too far away.

Cliff heard the voice of the Knight named Ryan.

"Everyone, gather here!"

Cliff put away his half-eaten black bread and, with a numb expression, followed the main group forward.

Soon, everyone in the camp, except for a few seriously injured individuals, had gathered there.

Through the moving heads, Cliff saw the Third Prince of the Eindoak Kingdom, the young man who was about to become their lord.

For a moment, his gaze seemed to meet the young man's, but the other quickly looked away.

Although the person was still young, his serious expression looked quite imposing.

"Everyone, please be quiet," Cliff heard him say.

Draconis's gaze swept over the crowd before him, then he slowly began to speak:

"After this day, I believe everyone has seen our current predicament."

"Due to the Blizzard, we have lost our way, and our current food reserves are not enough to support us in reaching our destination smoothly."

"However, the only thing to be thankful for is that we still have plenty of food, enough to get us through this winter."

"It's just that this winter is still very long; in the next two months, the temperature will continue to drop, and our current tents probably won't be able to withstand the cold snap."

Hearing these words, some people turned pale, and their eyes involuntarily revealed despair.

"But fortunately, I have found a solution." Draconis said with a serious expression, "I swear by the honor of the Eindoak Royal Family, I will do everything in my power to ensure every one of you survives!"

Hearing this, the crowd below was slightly stunned, and they couldn't help but be moved by these words.

"Your Highness Draconis..."

Draconis's gaze swept over the crowd as he continued, "For the next month, our carpenter, Tack, will be working tirelessly to cut down trees and build houses to withstand the coming cold snap."

"However, Tack alone is not enough... So, I hope everyone can also contribute their strength, whether it's Fishing, Gathering berries, collecting food, or helping to collect wood and build houses, as long as we can get through this winter, everything will be alright!"

"Yes, it will!" A clear voice suddenly rang out from the crowd.

Draconis looked up and saw a girl about ten years old responding to him with fighting spirit.

Draconis nodded to her.

Hearing this speech, the previously leaderless crowd instantly seemed to find their backbone.

At least for a short time, they no longer had to feel lost and knew what they needed to do.

"Also, there's one more thing."

Draconis's voice rang out again.

Everyone subconsciously turned their gaze towards him.

"Starting today, there are no more slaves in this territory."

These words immediately caused an uproar among the crowd.

The Commoners were fine, but the thirty-five slaves showed expressions of shock and surprise.

No, no more slaves... What did that mean?

Did this lord think they were wasting food by living and intend to execute them?

"In the name of the lord of this land, I grant you the status of freemen."

Draconis's voice rang out again.

"From now on, as long as you work hard, you will receive a house of your own, and perhaps in the future, you will even receive a piece of land of your own."

!!!

The slaves, who had been panicking just a second ago, immediately opened their eyes wide, looking at each other in disbelief.

Were they... dreaming?

Hearing these words, Cliff in the crowd couldn't help but ask in a trembling voice:

"Your Highness Draconis, is this true...?"

"Of course." Draconis looked at the man, then suddenly changed his tone: "However..."

Hearing that 'however,' everyone's hearts were in their throats again.

Draconis then smiled and continued, "All of this is on the premise that we can survive this cold winter."

People collectively breathed a sigh of relief.

Their gazes towards the young Prince before them had undergone a considerable change.

There was respect, gratitude, excitement... while Cliff stood dumbfounded in place.

Not a slave... From now on, he had regained his status as a freeman, no longer a slave!

What this meant needed no further explanation.

Cliff's eyes welled up with tears. This was too good, truly too good... From now on, he would follow His Highness Draconis to his death!

Draconis naturally noticed this scene, or perhaps this was his original intention.

Looking at the constantly fluctuating 'Popularity +1+1' and 'Satisfaction +1+1' on the panel before him, Draconis couldn't help but curl his lips.

Although he could have said a few more paragraphs, the main business was urgent at the moment.

"Alright, for the sake of our parents and children to safely survive this winter, everyone, please contribute your strength!" Draconis said.

Time was short, and the task was heavy.

Thus, the bustling crowd began to get busy.

The women picked up their baskets and went into the forest to Gather berries and collect food.

The strong men followed the Knights Order to the edge of the forest to cut down trees.

It wasn't until the crowd gradually dispersed that Draconis finally breathed a sigh of relief.

It was impossible not to be nervous facing such a situation for the first time, after all, he was just an ordinary person in his previous life.

But fortunately, judging by the reactions of the crowd, his Role Play was very successful.

Once the crowd dispersed, Draconis turned and returned to his tent.

This short while had allowed him to collect another 50 Satisfaction.

Soon, once he accumulated 200 Satisfaction, he could unlock a basic technology.

Looking at the Dratini sleeping soundly under the blanket, Draconis couldn't help but fall into contemplation.

In fact, their current situation was not safe, even though a territory had already been established.

If a Pokémon similar to Tyranitar were to break in and cause destruction, then even if all of them combined, they probably wouldn't be a match for Tyranitar.

Considering this, he had to become stronger himself.

Draconis began to think about special training for Dratini.

After all, currently, he was the only Trainer in the entire territory, at least he could be called a Trainer.

Only by becoming stronger and allowing Dratini to grow could their chances of survival significantly increase.

However, if that were the case, more problems would follow.

Firstly, as a pseudo-legendary Pokémon, Dratini was famously a "late bloomer."

By the time it grew up and evolved into Dragonite, their grave grass would probably be several meters high.

So, what about catching another fast-growing Pokémon like Butterfree? Draconis couldn't help but fall into contemplation.

Secondly, in this era, there were no Pokémon Centers, no doctors specializing in treating Pokémon injuries, and no one would prepare Potions for Pokémon.

This also meant that if Dratini got injured during special training, there would be no way to treat it.

Thinking of this, Draconis couldn't help but feel a headache.

Compared to other transmigrators, this was practically a hell mode start for him...
