Chapter 55 - Chapter 55 Spring

Winter departed and spring arrived. As the snow on the ground melted, all things began to revive, and the people in the territory once again became busy.

Draconis gathered everyone in the Lord's Hall to discuss various territorial affairs.

The first challenge was a food crisis.

"Your Highness Draconis, the food in the territory has almost been consumed by everyone..." Old Butler Alfred's expression was worried.

The Blizzard, which lasted for nearly two months, had almost depleted all their food, and now there was very little left in the granaries.

It was March, and there were still two months until the crops in the fields matured.

This meant that they might have to go hungry soon.

Draconis furrowed his brow, calmly pondered for a moment, and then said:

"Tell everyone to conserve food as much as possible. In my free time, I will have Dratini continue to go Fishing in the river."

However, constantly using electric Fishing was not a solution, as it would cause severe damage to the ecosystem.

Although resources were abundant in this era, if they continued like this, even the most abundant resources would eventually be depleted.

They still needed to be sustainable. Draconis couldn't help but begin to consider the feasibility of digging fish ponds and starting a fish farming plan in this territory.

The only fortunate thing, however, was that it was spring, and this fertile land held countless possibilities.

Pausing, Draconis continued: "Additionally, have the Gathering team continue to go out and Gather Berries, wood ear mushrooms, hazel mushrooms, and other wild goods. If they find common animals like pheasants, they can set traps to capture them for rearing."

Fish, Berries, wild goods, eggs, chicken, and the fruit from Snover... these were barely enough to fill their stomachs.

"Yes, Your Highness!" Alfred responded.

Draconis then turned his attention to the carpenters, blacksmiths, and some residents acting as temporary miners in the territory.

"I will continue to rely on all of you for the excavation of clay and the firing of bricks. Additionally, work at the lumber mill must continue, and we need to build the mill as soon as possible," he said.

With a mill, they could grind the harvested wheat into flour for making bread and other foods, and even use the power of flowing water to irrigate the farmlands.

"Yes, Your Highness Draconis!" Carpenter Tack and Blacksmith Morik, among others, responded in unison.

"Your Highness Draconis!" Several farmers nearby spoke up at the opportune moment.

Draconis looked at them.

"Spring has arrived, and the remaining wheat seeds, potato seeds, as well as cabbage, carrot, and oat seeds can now be sown!" the farmers reported.

He almost forgot about this! Draconis nodded: "In that case, let's start today!"

Reclaiming farmland, tilling the soil... there was still a lot of work waiting for them before sowing.

The people who received their tasks quickly turned and left to carry out their respective duties.

Draconis then turned his attention to the members of the Knights Order.

Spring had arrived, and perhaps because the weather was gradually warming up, many wild Pokémon had appeared in this land.

Some of them even began to become active around the territory.

For example, Budew in the grass, Swanna and Ducklett on the river, Ferroseed hanging from trees, and so on.

Fortunately, after this winter, the residents of this territory had changed their attitude towards magical beasts, and now when they saw these magical beasts, they were no longer as fearful as before.

Some residents even dared to approach the magical beasts on their own.

However, even so, they could not relax their vigilance.

After all, not all Pokémon were friendly to humans; some of them were dangerous.

Draconis pondered for a moment, then said: "Patrolling around the territory must not let down our guard. If you encounter aggressive magical beasts, remember to prioritize your safety and the safety of others."

"Yes!" The members of the Knights Order nodded one after another.

"Additionally." Draconis then turned his attention to Ryan, Cleveland, and Christina: "Many unknown magical beasts have appeared in the forest again, and I need you to set out once more to record them."

"Al-alright!" Christina quickly said.

Draconis smiled and said: "This time you don't need to go that far. Just draw the magical beasts inhabiting the forests and plains around the territory."

"Understood!" Christina hugged the sketchbook in her hands tightly.

Draconis nodded, and then said: "Alright, everyone, go and get busy!"

Everyone left one after another, but a young knight stayed behind.

Draconis looked up at him, raising an eyebrow: "Is there anything else?"

"Your, Your Highness!" The young knight couldn't help but ask: "Are we not going to the fief anymore?"

Draconis mused: "With our current food reserves, I'm afraid we won't be able to sustain ourselves until we reach that fief. What's wrong? Do you have family or friends there?"

The young knight quickly shook his head: "No, I just... I just can't bear to leave this place. If we all leave, these houses we worked so hard to build will be abandoned."

Moreover, some Commoners no longer wanted to leave.

They felt that living here was quite good, after all, no matter how fertile that fief was, it had nothing to do with them.

And here, there were no slaves, no wars, and everyone worked together to build a home.

Hearing the young knight's words, Draconis smiled and said: "Regarding this matter, I have my own decision, but no matter what, we must first overcome the current food crisis. Other matters can be discussed later."

"Yes!"

The young knight performed a standard knight's salute, then left the tent to go on patrol around the area.

Suddenly, only Draconis, Dratini, and Snivy were left in the tent.

Looking at the accumulated Berry seeds in front of him, Draconis took a deep breath and said to Snivy: "It's time."

"Snivy?" Snivy was startled and didn't react immediately.

"What I promised you before—to plant these Berry seeds and create a home where you can live."

Draconis said, looking at the surrounding map drawn by Christina.

Finally, he chose an open space south of the territory to plant these Berry trees.

Berries, an incredibly miraculous resource in the Pokémon world.

They have a fast Growth cycle and a short ripening time, often allowing for a harvest every two or three days.

With these Berries, they could start raising more Pokémon.

Shuckle, Combee, Sawsbuck... Draconis silently planned his next steps in his mind.

Just then, however, a sound of panic suddenly came from outside.

Immediately after, a farmer rushed in and reported:

"Your, Your Highness! There are magical beasts destroying the crops in the fields! It's too fast, the Knights Order can't catch it at all!"

What?

Hearing this, Draconis immediately frowned.

The crops in the fields concerned their survival, and there could be no mistakes.

Thinking of this, Draconis immediately stood up and said: "Take me to see!"

"Yes, Your Highness!"
