Chapter 26 - The Tunnel of Death

[ Morning, Day 3 - The Highway Ramp ]

The Rover scrambled up from the dried riverbed, merging back onto the main highway. Ahead lay the "Fallen Giant King Statue," creating a 500-meter-long tunnel of darkness with its massive arm.

"Philip... check inside," Murphy idled the engine.

Philip sent the Seeker Orb ahead. The display lit up red.

[Warning: High Density of Unknown Biological Entities]

"Murphy... The Core can't identify them," Philip went pale. "But the tunnel is packed. Walls, floor, ceiling... there's no space."

"Detour?"

"Negative. We have to go through."

Murphy took a deep breath. "Lights out. We go in stealth mode."

The Rover coasted silently into the pitch-black tunnel. The air was freezing and reeked of copper blood.

The tunnel surfaces were carpeted with pulsating mounds of flesh. Squelch... Squelch...

"Easy does it..." Philip whispered.

CRUNCH.

A tire rolled over a protruding limb. The movement stopped instantly. Thousands of beady eyes snapped open in the dark.

"GRRRRR!!!!"

A high-pitched shriek echoed. The flesh-carpet began to swell and lunge at the car!

"Damn it!" Murphy cursed. "Philip! Take the wheel! Keep it moving slow! I'll clear the path!"

Murphy kicked the door open, Tactical Ninjato in hand, and stepped into the swarm.

Combat erupted in the pitch black.

Whoosh!

A claw lashed out. Murphy raised his sword to block.

CLANG!

A massive impact hit the blade. But instead of the usual bone-jarring shock, Murphy felt a steady vibration travel down the steel. It flowed through the hilt into his hand as a surge of warm energy.

Murphy smirked, muttering to himself in the chaos.

"The theory I've been thinking about for days... it actually makes sense."

He gritted his teeth, twisting his wrist.

"Using the sword as a medium to take the hit instead of my arm... it works!"

With a roar, Murphy swung back with full force.

Slash... ZAP!

In the split second the blade cut through the enemy... a faint Azure Spark arced from the tip of the sword!

It wasn't just metal sparking against bone. It was "Static Discharge" from compressed energy.

Slash! Slash!

Every parry and counter-attack generated faint blue flashes—Zap... Zap...—dancing in the void.

Philip, steering the crawling Rover, watched his brother's back through the windshield. He saw the blue light... and everything clicked.

'That light... how is he doing that?'

Philip frowned, analyzing Murphy's movements. Then he realized.

Murphy wasn't fighting the force head-on. He was using the sword as a "Bridge."

The raw impact that should shatter bones was being soaked up by the long steel blade. The metal acted like a filter, stripping away the violence and turning it into a high-frequency hum that traveled down to the handle.

Murphy was simply drinking up that vibration... and spinning it right back at them!

"And that blue flash..." Philip murmured, his eyes wide with awe.

"He's compressing that vibration so hard, he's tearing apart the air molecules... creating his own lightning."

A satisfied smile formed on Philip's face as he watched his brother cleave a monster in two with an electrified blade.

'Incredible... He's evolving. That sword isn't just a weapon; it's the missing piece of the puzzle.'

"Go get 'em, brother... I've got your back."

Slice!!

Murphy cut down the last creature blocking the exit.

Natural light began to flood in.

Murphy jumped back into the Rover, panting. Smoke and residual static drifted from his blade.

"Let's go..." Murphy said grimly.

The Rover burst out of the tunnel, back into the world.

But the light waiting for them wasn't the morning sun. It was the deep orange glow of "Twilight."

And ahead lay the City Walls... and a "Massacre."

At the main gate, Axel's squad was surrounded by hundreds of Shadow Aberrations, moments away from being slaughtered.

"Philip..." Murphy stared at the scene, his sword still humming.

"Looks like our work isn't done yet."
