Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: The Guide

Death, a fate that awaited every living thing on this planet. It could come at a moment's notice, the flame of life being snuffed out in a single second. However a certain man had managed to narrowly avoid such a fate but how? Lying unconscious on the forest floor the man slowly wakes up, pushing himself up he rises to a knee, a hand covering his face as he wipes it. His vision slowly comes into focus and he's met with a peculiar sight.

"Shit! Is he dead? Maybe I can recover his core."

In front of him was a short girl with flowing silver hair, her skin a soft shade of brown. Pacing back and forth there was clearly something with her, but something was even more apparent. Sprouting from her back was a pair of white feathery wings and floating above the right side of her head was a blue prism like structure. Watching her pace back and forth his face blanked, who is this little girl and what is she talking about?

"No I'm not dead"-he scratches the side of his head and rises to his feet-"and what's this core you're talking about?"

Hearing his voice she stops in her tracks, shivers run up her spine and she scurries over to him, her sky blue eyes looking him up and down."Fuck that's a relief, can't have you dying on me." She'd start to run her hands over his body, patting his sides up and down before opening up his mouth with her thumb and checking inside. " You really are fine kid, you weren't breathing just a second ago."

Getting analyzed by this strange girl had the man confused, just looking down at her as he chuckles and grabs her wrist and gets her away from his mouth, "If anything I should be calling you kid. What's a little girl like you doing out here anyways it's dangerous."

Listening to him her eyelids became half lidded as she glared."That's because you are a kid."

" Just like you" he snarkily remarked.

"No, nothing like you."-she takes a step back and puffs out her chest that was frankly quite underwhelming for a woman-"just look at who you're talking to."

He brings his fist to his mouth to stifle a laugh."Yeah a little girl with no tits."

 "No tits! Are you blind!?'

" No, but I'm starting to think you're delusional."

Her brow would start to furrow but she'd start to look down at her body and suddenly her eyes went wide."What the hell! Why is-" She'd suddenly stop in the middle of her sentence, stumbling forward she clutches the right side of her head.

"Woah! It seemed like you were checking on me, who's really the kid now." He'd smirk and chuckle.

"Shut....the fuck....up." She'd mutter out before her body goes limp against his body and her consciousness fades.

"Wait! You can't just pass out on me!" He'd slap the side of her face a couple times to no avail. Letting out a heavy sigh he throws her over her shoulder."I guess I can't just leave her out here.... I have too many questions for her anyways."

Questions were all the man had, who exactly was this random girl that had just appeared? Why did she have wings and this....thing above her head and even more importantly, what had happened to him when he was fighting that roc. The only thing he had to go off of right now was this girl, he needed her to wake up so he could get this whole situation cleared. With her draped over his shoulder he starts making his way through the woods once again. Making seemingly random turns through the trees and all the overgrown plants before coming to a lone wooden cabin. It had its fair share of wear and tear on its surface, some logs being scratched up and missing chunks of wood but other than that was rather well maintained and looked cozy. Walking up the stairs onto the porch he uses his free hand to open the door using his foot to close it behind him.

"Henry! I'm back!" He shouts as he walks inside, setting the girl down on a couch next to the fireplace.

The inside of the cabin was quite spacious, having an open concept living room that seamlessly integrated into a kitchen with a hallway off to the side leading to the bathroom on one side of the hall and a bedroom at the end. But across from the bathroom was an open doorway and from it a small duck would waddle out and around the corner towards the living room.

The man just gives a soft smile as he squats down and runs his hands across its head. With Henry in tow he makes his way to the bedroom in the back of the cabin. Getting more comfortable he would take off his cloak and pants leaving him in nothing but his black undersuit that left the sides of his waist exposed. As he undressed his eyes went wide as he pats his hips only to realize not only had he lost his catch somewhere in the woods, he had lost his dagger as well. Just letting out a heavy sigh as he rubs his temples.

"I'm assuming you don't have a surprise dagger waiting for me do you Henry?" He would look down to his faithful companion Henry who seemed to be laughing at him as he quacked repeatedly in a low tone." Yeah, yeah, laugh it up. I can always sell you for some extra coin."

Henry would look up at the man for a few seconds before waddling away as if to call him out on his lie. Just smiling and chuckling he'd soon make his way over to the kitchen, embedded in one of the walls was a small crystal. Placing his hand against it he lets a bit of energy from his body flow into it and as it does dozens of crystals that were in the ceiling and hanging from it would light up the cabin. Going back to the living room he would grab a blanket from a nearby closet and drape it over her body before he takes a seat and looks at the strange girl that was lying there, slumping into his seat Henry would hop up into his lap.

"Oh, you're gonna wait with me buddy?"

 " Quack."

 "Good man."

The two waited for the girl to wake. Hours and hours passed with the girl not giving the slightest hint of waking until the sun had set and the day was coming to an end. Waking up her eyes flutter open and she pushes herself up a bit.

" Ah, you've finally awoken." He'd utter, his voice deliberately lower than normal as he held Henry on his arm and stroked his head with the other, legs folded over one another.

Waking up to such a sight she blankly blinks a few times before throwing the blanket over herself and rolling over.

"Hey!"-he would shoot up from his seat and start yanking the blanket away from her-"I was waiting and practicing that line for hours at least appreciate it a little!" Henry would flap down onto the floor as the man shot up.

Having the blanket pulled from her she starts pulling back."No way! I'm not giving you any satisfaction after I had to wake up to... to... whatever the fuck that was!"

Beginning a game of tug of war with the blanket the two grunt and fight against each other before the man gets the better of the small girl yanking it away from her making her tumble and roll to the other side of the couch.

 "Hah! I win!"

She'd rub her head."It wasn't a game idiot, God did someone like you really have to end up with a core?"

There it was again, core. She had mentioned a core before when he had first woken up. The more she spoke the more the man needed answers. He'd let out a small sigh before tossing the girl the blanket and sitting back down in his seat.

"You keep mentioning this core, what are you talking about?" He'd inquire

She'd sigh." A pseudo core." She'd start to rub her head."I don't know what happened to my body and my memory is all hazy but I do remember one thing clearly." She'd throw the blanket off of her and get up from the couch. Standing up she'd walk over to the man and place a finger on his chest. "The feeling of a core, and one is inside you."

Hearing this the man just went silent and took it all in, taking a deep breath he looks into her eyes."Okay so i have one of these core things, what even are they and what do they have to do with you."

"Well if you were listening you'd know that my memory isn't all there. But I guess it would be a good idea to tell you what I can remember." She'd slump back against his couch and cross her legs."My name is Sarah, I'm an angel sent to the mortal plane to find and guide those that merge with the six pseudo cores. I can't remember what god sent me or anything else so don't bother asking."

"So if I'm getting this right."-he folds his arms-"you're actually important and are my guide."

"Oh, so you can listen." She scoffs.

'But you're still a little girl."

Her brow furrows and she shoots up."I am not a little girl! Something happened to my body. I assure you I was fully developed and gorgeous.... I think."

" yes, yes, I'm sure you were and since you're my guide or whatever you should at least know my name."-he'd stand and reach a hand out towards her-"I'm Cyrus."

She'd have her arms folded and look away, tapping her foot against the floor. She was in deep debate but lets out a sigh and reluctantly shakes his hand. An angel, a man with a pseudo core, and his duck. Three lives that have become intertwined in but a single event.
