Chapter 1 - Chapter 1 : vivid Trauma

"Jack, Emma, wake up it's time for school", the mother of the duo called out to her sleeping children from the kitchen.

Jack stirred awake upon hearing his mother's voice.

The rays of sunlight that brushed against his face from the slightly opened curtain urged his awakening.

"Hey lazy bone, wake up", Jack leaned on his sister's bed which was about 6 to 7 feet away from his.

"Brother Jack, why are you disturbing me? "Emma grumbled, "let me sleep a little longer", she rolled to the other edge of the bed away from Jack.

Knowing his little sister was a deep sleeper, if left to do as she pleases she would probably still be sleeping for several hours to come.

"Lazy bone, get up", "you know Dad is going to be the one to wake us up after mum tried, I know you hate his method of doing so cause you always end up crying anytime he does".

Emma could only sit up on her bed grumpily as she recollected memories of their dad trying to wake her up.

Their dad suddenly popped his head through the slightly opened door with a wide smile, "hope both of you are awake?", his husky voice sounded as he walked into the room.

"Good morning, Dad," Jack greeted with a smile.

"Good morning, my boy, how was your night?", he ruffled Jack's hair as he smiled.

"It was fine."

"Is anyone still asleep," their dad smirked.

Emma's eyes widened already sensing where this was probably heading.

"Dad, I'm already awake, no tickling this morning", she shouted highly alert.

"Alright my dear, your wish is my command".

Their dad patted his chest as he got on her bed, he tried grabbing her but the girl screamed and tried getting off the bed at full speed but she wasn't fast enough.

Their father caught her before her tiny feet could touch the ground and he began tickling her.

Jack laughed at the side as Emma's laughter slowly turned into a sob.

Not long after, the trio walked out of the room and the still crying Emma stumbled towards her mother in the kitchen.

Wiping her hands on her apron, she pulled her sweet baby in a caring hug, "Daddy made my little Emma cry again".

Emma who had already stopped crying pouted. "I was already awake but Dad still tickled me", everyone burst out laughing.

"Alright, no time to waste, you both are already late for school, go take your bath and come and have your breakfast," their mother urged.

"This annoying school stuff again," Jack mumbled as he walked towards the bathroom.

"I don't want to go to school, Jack hates going to school so I hate going to school", Emma shouted in her mother's arms.

Jack hurried into the bathroom upon hearing his little sister's statement.

"How many times have I told you not to make Jack your role model in his negative ways," their mother scolded.

"Never, brother Jack is not negative, he's the best," Emma shouted.

Her father laughed while her mother sighed tiredly.

Few minutes later.

"Jack!" their father called from the dining room.

"I'm coming", Jack replied as he walked towards the dining room dressed in his light blue school uniform.

His mom, sighting his approaching figure from the dining room, frowned. "Why are you always late at school ?"

Suddenly the loud blaring sound of an alarm interrupted her before she could complete her statement.

Jack's breath caught, his petrified gaze was fixed on the flashing red alarm in the living room.

"Mom I...It's a red grade alarm", his eyes widened and pure terror was evident in his tone.

Immediately he said this, his father sprang up from his seat grabbing Emma with a deep frown and he ran towards the door.

His mother followed, pulling him along.

Immediately they opened the front door, the blinding rays of sunlight pressed directly against their face but it was completely ignored as it was the least of their problems.

Everyone moved swiftly towards the same direction, some in cars, bicycles, buses, everything was in disarray as everyone had one goal in mind.

"Fast to the shelter, the barrier will soon be activated and it will buy us some time", almost as soon as his father said this, a white transparent barrier formed like a canopy, covering the whole city.

People sighed in relief as the barrier got activated.

The pace of their running and disarray slowed, they had confidence the barrier would be able to protect them and the warriors would be able to deal With the beasts within and outside the barrier.

Before everyone could take in a deep breath.

A huge rumbling sound shook everything to its core making everyone stagger for a bit.

Everyone paused with terror boldly written on their faces.

Suddenly, another rumbling followed, the barrier shattered like glass, everyone's face turned ashen with fear as they began running and screaming in resumed disarray.

This time the sound of beasts growling accompanied the screams followed by beams of light crashing into buildings increasing the screams, cries and chaos from the people.

Jack looked behind through the gaps in the running people, he could see the warriors running through the crowd, they were also running from the beasts.

Jack looked forward but his gaze caught a huge eagle like beast probably the size of a car in the air.

Before he could even process anything, the bird screeched, flapping its wings harshly.

A huge gust of wind slammed into the ground a few meters behind and it spun furiously.

Jack screamed as he got pulled towards it, but his mom reached out instinctively, grabbing his arm and she pulled with all her might.

"Mom!!" Jack called out panicking and almost at the brink of tears, his mother kept pulling stubbornly tears threatened to spill from her beautiful eyes.

Jack looked ahead and he could see his father pushing against the crowd and running back towards them with Emma in his arms.

Jack, who was already filled with hope, was suddenly plunged into despair as a shoulder slammed into his mother's arms, her grip on his hand slipped and she hit the ground.

"Jack! she screamed at the top of her lungs, this time tears freely flowed out of her eyes.

"Mom! Jack shouted desperately as he got pulled towards the spinning wind.

He couldn't believe the life he had barely started was already ending, yet he closed his eyes knowing this was it.

His eyes remained shut as he waited for the feeling of being torn to shreds by the spinning wind, but it never came.

He slowly opened his eyes, surprisingly his body was still intact and he wasn't at the place he formally was.

He was quite a few distance behind, he couldn't even see the spinning wind again.

Panicked, he moved backwards with his butt till his back touched the building behind him.

Curling up into a ball as he looks around wearily, his gaze suddenly caught sight of his parents and sister.

His father handed the crying Emma to his mother who was also crying, he said something to them and he began pushing against the crowd moving backwards.

Jack felt his heart pound against his chest like a war drum, as he stood up on his shaking legs wanting to call out to his dad.

Suddenly, a low growl came from his side and his head immediately snapped towards the direction, his eyes widened as his gaze caught a wolf-like beast with thick armored like scales on its body, striding towards him.

Being in close proximity with a bloodthirsty beast, Jack unconsciously crashed on his butt.

The wolf snarled and leapt at him. Jack's eyes widened as the wolf closed in on him, suddenly his eyes widened as a flash of red beam split the wolf into two.

He narrowly leaned to the side, and the beam crashed into the building behind him.

The sound of the collapsing building behind him nearly gave him a heart attack, he ran as fast as his legs could carry him, narrowly dodging the collapsing building.

Cold sweat drenched his back and his heart pounded wildly against his chest, trying to hold himself together, he began looking through the crowds searching for his father.

His eyes widened and his breath caught as he sighted his father.

His father lay on the ground holding the leg of a man clearly saying something to him.

Standing there with the man was a girl in the same uniform as him and so were two warrior one in silver power armor and the other in white power armor.

The man pulled his leg away and kicked his father in the face, his father kept on begging and shouting as they left him behind but he couldn't get up.

Jack could see several beasts approaching, and behind them was a towering humanoid beast.

His father struggled, crawling on the ground and calling out his name.

Jack screamed and ran towards his father.

Suddenly a pair of strong arms grabbed him and ran towards the shelter at full speed, breezing past several people with amazing speed.

"No! Don't go!! save my father!!!" , Jack screamed, tears streamed down his eyes but to no avail.

The figure continues running forward even blurring past the warriors.

Jack couldn't even think properly, he just struggled to break free desperately, but he couldn't, seeing his own helplessness he screamed and cried.

In a blur, the figure got to the underground shelter with the crying Jack in his arms.

Still crying, Jack heard his mother's voice calling him.

"Jack! Jack !!, wake up, it's time for school."

His vibrant hazel eyes slowly opened, silent tears streaming down as he woke up.
