Chapter 17 - Chapter 17 -- Luo Feng Is Trapped

A sharp beep-beep-beep pierced the stillness.

Bai Yue, who had been quietly immersed in comprehending his Domain atop the snowy peak, opened his eyes. His communication watch rarely made any sound—he had long set it to Do Not Disturb. Only matters marked as urgent could break through that barrier.

Lowering his gaze, he glanced at the message.

Sender: Dojo of Limits (Emergency Notice)

Content: Confirmation of Death — Luo Feng

For a moment, Bai Yue's expression remained calm.

Then, a faint sigh escaped him.

"So it's reached this stage already…"

He knew very well that Luo Feng was not dead. In truth, Luo Feng was still inside the ancient civilization ruins, undergoing the harshest trial of his life. But the outside world did not know that. According to established procedures, once someone had been trapped for three full months with no signs of life, the Dojo of Limits would issue a presumed death notice.

This was not malice—just cold, rigid protocol.

"It seems my journey ends here for now," Bai Yue muttered softly.

"And now that I'm back… I wonder how many insignificant insects will dare crawl out."

With a thought, he contacted his intelligent fighter jet parked far away in the distance.

Moments later, the sleek craft descended through the clouds. Bai Yue stepped into the open hatch, and with a low hum, the hatch sealed shut. The fighter jet accelerated, cutting through the sky and heading straight toward Jiangnan Base City.

Jiangnan Base City · Mingyue Community

The intelligent fighter jet descended slowly into the designated parking area.

"That's Inspector Bai!"

"He's back—Inspector Bai is back!"

"I heard he hasn't returned for over a year!"

"Didn't they say he was cultivating overseas?"

"Why would he suddenly come back now…?"

"It must be because of Inspector Luo Feng," a middle-aged martial artist said in a hushed voice. "Those two were childhood friends."

Bai Yue paid no attention to the murmurs around him. His steps were steady as he walked straight toward Luo Feng's residence.

The moment he stepped inside, a heavy, oppressive atmosphere washed over him.

Silence.

Grief.

On the sofa, Gong Xinlan sat quietly, wiping away tears she tried hard to suppress. Luo Hua stood beside her, gently comforting her along with his girlfriend Zhen Nan. On the opposite sofa, Luo Hongguo smoked silently, his brows deeply furrowed, looking as though he had aged ten years overnight.

No one noticed Bai Yue's arrival at first.

Only when he deliberately cleared his throat did they look up in surprise.

"Uncle, Aunt," Bai Yue spoke calmly, his voice steady.

"Luo Feng has great fortune. He won't die."

The words landed like a stone thrown into still water.

Luo Hua was the first to react, his eyes widening.

"Brother Bai… is that really true?"

Bai Yue smiled faintly.

"When have I ever lied to you?"

"But…" Luo Hongguo frowned deeply. "The Dojo already sent a death notice."

"Yes," Bai Yue nodded. "A procedural one. Not confirmation."

He paused, then continued slowly, deliberately.

"I've looked into it. That ruin was originally designed as a trial site. Luo Feng's Mental Master talent is extremely high. There's a strong possibility he triggered a deep-level assessment."

Of course, he hadn't actually investigated anything—this was knowledge from the original timeline. But spoken from his mouth, it carried unquestionable authority.

Gong Xinlan gripped the edge of the sofa tightly.

"Xiao Yue… then when will Xiao Feng come back?"

Bai Yue did not hesitate.

"At most two years."

That was the truth.

The room finally felt as though it could breathe again.

After comforting them for a while longer, Bai Yue politely declined their invitation to stay for dinner.

"I'll be staying next door for the next two years," he said gently.

"If anything happens, come to me immediately."

Only after ensuring their emotions had stabilized did he take his leave.

The Calm Before the Storm

Over the next period of time, Bai Yue did not leave Jiangnan Base City again.

He visited Luo Feng's house regularly.

Not to chat.

But to exist.

His mere presence was enough to deter countless hidden gazes. Luo Feng had left behind far too many valuable resources—plant spirits, treasures, and inheritances. Even Councilors drooled over them.

But with Bai Yue there, none dared move.

During this time, Bai Yue's cultivation did not slow in the slightest. His Domain grew increasingly stable, increasingly profound. His genetic energy and Mental Power both reached Planetary Level Nine.

Had he wished, he could have broken through to Astral Rank long ago.

But he waited.

Waiting for the proper moment.

Waiting for Luo Feng.

Ancient Civilization Ruin No. 9

Click—click—click.

A passage slowly opened inside the massive underground hall.

Instantly, every staff member froze.

"That's impossible!"

"Someone came out?!"

"It's been three months since the last batch!"

A figure clad entirely in black walked out of the passage, his body thin, his hair long and unkempt.

"A black person?"

Before anyone could react, a scanning beam swept over him.

A clear, mechanical voice echoed throughout the hall:

"Welcome back, God of War — Luo Feng."

The hall exploded.

"One year and three months…"

"No one has ever stayed that long!"

"God of War Luo Feng… returned alive?!"

Reports were sent out at lightning speed.

"Report to headquarters—Luo Feng has returned!"

"China's God of War Luo Feng is alive!"

This news detonated across the globe like a nuclear blast.

Hong

Thunder God

Both were alarmed.

And so were others.

Far away, Li Yao, mid-drink, stared at the screen in disbelief. His hand tightened—and the wine glass shattered. Red liquid splashed across the floor like blood.

Reunion

After washing up, Luo Feng immediately called home.

In Jiangnan Base City, the Luo family was eating dinner in silence.

The ringtone rang.

Sharp. Sudden.

"It's Xiao Feng's call!" Gong Xinlan cried out.

Luo Hongguo stared at the caller ID, his hands trembling as he answered.

"Xiao Feng… is that really you?"

"It's me, Father."

"Turn on the video," Luo Hongguo said urgently. "Let me see you."

The screen lit up.

Unshaven. Thin. Tired.

But alive.

Gong Xinlan broke down in tears.

"I'm sorry, Mom," Luo Feng said softly.

"I'll be home in just over an hour."

After handing matters over to Hong, who had rushed to the scene, Luo Feng began his journey home.

At last—

The wheel of fate turned once more.
