Chapter 1 - Zebra crossing

There was a boy named Zetsun.

He used to go to his office every day. There wasn't much happening in his life—nothing special,

nothing exciting. He was always lost in the same thoughts, especially wondering, "What will my future be like?"

One day, while returning home from his office, the traffic was moving as usual.

Zetsun was crossing the road at a zebra crossing when,

right in the middle of the road, he saw a black and white cat. He walked closer, trying to catch it.

Suddenly, the cat started speaking.

"You are the human I've been searching for. And now no one can stop me from showing you where you truly belong."

All of a sudden, Zetsun felt strange—like he had been standing on the zebra crossing for a very long time.

When he opened his eyes, everything looked normal again.

Maybe it was just a dream, he thought.

Trying to forget everything, he went to a café to have some coffee. But something felt off… as if someone was watching him. When he looked again, he saw the same cat.

This time, however, there was a funny-looking boy sitting in front of him.

The boy sat beside Zetsun and said casually,

"How's it going, bro? You know me, right?"

Zetsun replied, "No."

The boy smiled and said, "I'm a detective. Some people have been disappearing ever since they crossed that zebra crossing."

Zetsun frowned. "So what does that have to do with me?"

The boy then introduced himself.

"My name is Hakura. I've been looking for people who cross that road every day… and now, I need you."

Hakura said, "You also cross that same road every day, so I came to ask you if you know anything—whether you've seen these people."

He showed three photographs to Zetsun.

Pointing at the first photo, Hakura said,

"This is a girl. Her name is Mira. She used to come to this very café every day with her old grandfather."

Showing the second photo, he continued,

"This is a 16-year-old boy. He was a bit crazy—always whispering to himself. Nothing ever really went right in his life."

Then, showing the last photo, he said,

"And this is another man. His name is Zeb—"

Before he could finish,

Zetsun suddenly shut his eyes tightly for a moment and said loudly,

"I don't know any of them."

The detective, Hakura, nodded.

"Alright. If you happen to learn anything about these people, make sure to inform us."

Zetsun didn't reply. He only nodded his head up and down.

Hakura then left.

Zetsun muttered to himself,

"It feels like I've seen all of them somewhere… sometime."

The cat's words echoed in his mind again:

'I will take you to the place where you truly belong.'

Suddenly,

Zetsun thought—What if I'm next?

He rushed out, trying to catch the detective and tell him something, but by then, Hakura was already gone.

Zetsun thought,

"Maybe I'm overthinking everything. I should go."

What will happen to Zetsun next?

The mystery continues in Episode 2
