Chapter 34 - Until You Agree

The riverbank felt cooler than the rest of the city, the breeze brushing softly over the water.

Even so, my body felt like it was burning. Just thinking about Elara stirred a strange heat inside me, warming my cheeks and tightening my chest.

I reached for the can of beer beside me. When I popped it open, foam burst out and spilled over the edge.

Not wanting to waste even a drop, I hurriedly lifted it to my lips and drank in quick gulps.

Still, a thin stream slipped down the side of the can and onto my fingers. By the time I swallowed, the corners of my mouth were dotted with foam.

I ran my tongue over my lips, trying to clean away the taste and the froth. That was when I felt Elara's gaze on me.

"I don't want to waste it," I muttered, wiping my mouth with my sleeve.

I didn't want to give her another chance to tease me, especially when that faint, knowing smile was already sitting on her face.
