Chapter 29 - Chapter 29 Friend is Taken

Elena's POV

"Oh shit," I whispered, my grip tightening on the bag.

I considered turning around or frantically hitting the elevator button, but it was too late—they'd closed the distance in just a few strides.

"Hey," I said, forcing a weak smile.

"I told you we'd find her here," Janelle hissed, crossing her arms.

Marcus stepped closer, his forehead wrinkled with anger. "Didn't you get my message?"

I pressed my lips together. "I did."

"And you're okay with it? You couldn't call to beg me?" Marcus snapped.

I lifted an eyebrow, shocked that he expected me to grovel after what he'd pulled. But that wasn't what confused me most.

"How did you get my number?"

Janelle laughed harshly. "Don't play dumb, Elena. Only an idiot blackmailer leaves their number on the message."

I scoffed, stunned. Minnie had sent the message and attached her own number? What was her game plan?

I had no clue, but I'd figure that out later.
