Chapter 29 - Chapter 29: The Unbreakable Wall

Chapter 29: The Unbreakable Wall

"Final round! Namikaze Minato versus Shinra!"

The ten-minute break felt like a fleeting breath. As the examiner's voice boomed across the now-feverish arena, the crowd erupted. The air itself seemed to vibrate with anticipation.

Two geniuses, each carving their own path to this point. One, the acknowledged prodigy from humble beginnings, a symbol of brilliant, methodical growth. The other, a dark horse risen from obscurity, wielding a terrifying, unknown power.

Who was stronger? Who would shape Konoha's future?

As Shinra and Minato stepped into the pristine circle of the central ring, the atmosphere reached a screaming crescendo.

Minato looked at Shinra, his trademark, easy-going smile in place, but his bright blue eyes burned with a fierce, focused fire.

"I finally get to face you," he said, his voice carrying over the din.

"Then you'd better bring your best," Shinra replied, not a hint of humility in his confident smirk. "I don't go easy."

"Good. I intend to give it everything I have to defeat you." Minato's smile was genuine, his resolve clear.

"Are both contestants ready?" the examiner asked, glancing between them.

A simultaneous nod.

"Final match… BEGIN!"

The examiner vanished from the ring in a flicker.

Both boys' expressions snapped into masks of intense concentration.

Swish-swish-swish!

Minato moved first. Three shuriken shot from his hands, aimed with unerring precision. But he wasn't done. His body flowed into motion, hands becoming a blur as he drew and threw again—over a dozen more shuriken arced through the air, each maintaining a precise, calculated distance and angle from the others. It was a net, a three-dimensional trap designed to block every conceivable dodge or block.

"Exquisite! What shurikenjutsu!"

"This is it! This is the real match!"

The spectators, especially the veterans, murmured in appreciation. Even Hiruzen nodded, a flicker of pride in his eyes.

Shinra didn't move. His expression remained placid. His right hand flashed to the small of his back and came away with a single shuriken of his own.

His eyes sharpened. Observation Haki painted the trajectories of every incoming projectile in his mind with crystal clarity.

Clang-clang-clang-clang-clang!

A rapid, percussive symphony of metal on metal. Shinra's arm became a controlled blur, his single shuriken a whirling shield. He stood rooted, not shifting an inch, as every one of Minato's intricately-aimed shuriken was deflected, knocked aside, or sent spinning harmlessly away. Not a single one touched him, not even his clothes.

"Minato," Shinra said, his voice calm amid the ringing silence that followed the last deflection. "Don't disappoint me. Show me what you've really got."

Just as Minato longed for a true challenge, Shinra was eager to test himself against the future Yellow Flash, the man who would become the Fourth Hokage and a legend of the Third War. For the first time in this tournament, Shinra was taking it seriously from the first second. He wouldn't underestimate this opponent.

"Amazing speed and perception!"

"Not just raw power… his skill is monstrous!"

"Minato's shuriken net… even a Sharingan user would struggle to parse it all!"

The knowledgeable observers were stunned. This wasn't just about overwhelming force; this was about peerless, refined technique.

"Not bad at all!" Minato's smile only widened, his excitement palpable. His hands flew through a sequence of seals.

"Fire Release: Phoenix Sage Fire Jutsu!"

He inhaled and exhaled—dozens of small, fiery projectiles erupted from his mouth, filling the air above Shinra like a deadly, burning hailstorm. But the true danger was hidden: each flame concealed a razor-sharp shuriken within. It was a high-level combination technique—part ninjutsu, part shurikenjutsu—devastating and nearly impossible to fully defend against.

The arena gasped. Even Danzo's eyebrows rose in surprise.

"The advanced technique, Phoenix Sage Claw Red?!"

As the rain of fire and hidden steel descended, the scorching heat washing over the ring, Shinra slowly returned his own shuriken to its pouch.

The spectators held their breath. Finally! He's going to have to retreat! A strange sense of relief washed over many. Shinra's utter dominance had been oppressive. Seeing him forced back would feel… normal.

But Shinra simply looked up at the fiery downpour, the dancing flames reflecting in his dark eyes.

He clenched his right fist.

Fissure.

A faint, humming white aura sheathed his knuckles.

He threw a single, straight punch into the air above him.

CRACK-BOOM!!!

The sound was the shattering of reality itself. The air in a two-meter sphere in front of his fist didn't ripple—it fractured, a web of brilliant white light spreading out like frozen lightning.

The incoming "phoenix flowers" and their hidden shuriken didn't just stop. They disintegrated. The flames were snuffed out as if they'd never existed; the metal shards vibrated into harmless dust. The entire area of the attack was wiped clean, leaving only the fading, crystalline cracks in the air.

He hadn't moved. Not a step back, not a sidestep.

Shock.

Awe.

And a deep, collective sense of… futility.

The crowd's heart sank again. All they had wanted was to see him take one step back. Just one. Half a step.

It seemed an impossible ask.

And no one felt that weight more heavily than Namikaze Minato himself. The brilliant smile was gone, replaced by a look of intense, analytical focus tinged with a dawning realization.

The boy in front of him wasn't just strong. He was a fortress. A monolith. Speed, perception, power—every avenue of attack Minato possessed seemed to crash against an immovable, unbreakable wall.

It was… daunting.
