Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: Dumbledore on Official Business

The office of the Muggle Issues Mediation Committee at the Canadian Ministry of Magic fell into dead silence.

A magical genius named Grindelwald suddenly appeared in Canada, and a mere magical outburst remotely burned down a kindergarten.

Smith, the Chairman of the Committee, wiped the cold sweat from his forehead. He suddenly felt that the presence of the Canadian Ministry of Magic on the world stage was perhaps not that important after all.

After all, the previous magical genius named Grindelwald had turned Europe upside down and was currently locked up in Nurmengard.

Chairman Smith turned and instructed the Intern beside him:

"John, go and consult with Director Wilson of the Department of Magical Accidents and Catastrophes. Tell him this is no longer something our committee can handle alone—"

"No, better yet, go straight to Minister Cavendish of the Ministry of Magic. Ask him to consult with Europe. This is no longer a matter the Canadian Ministry of Magic can decide on its own."

"Chairman, isn't this making a mountain out of a molehill? The other party is just a four-year-old child living in a Muggle family..."

"Hah, you young people never experienced the era when that Grindelwald was in power; you have no idea how terrifying he was! Even if there's only a one-in-ten-thousand chance, I dare not gamble on that future... There is no second Dumbledore in this world!"

Upon learning of the situation, Minister Cavendish of the Canadian Ministry of Magic immediately penned a frantic letter of appeal and dispatched the fastest Owl in the Ministry to deliver it.

It was Dumbledore who had sent that Squib from the Grindelwald Family to live in Canada in the first place; he had to handle the aftermath!

The delivery Owl was given a special Stimulant Potion, and its wings flapped so hard they smoked. It took only one night before it collapsed onto a pile of Cockroaches on the desk in the Headmasters Office at Hogwarts.

September 24, 1983, was a beautiful Friday.

Karl Grindelwald, who had just finished teaching his students, decided to book a table tonight at his daughter's favorite restaurant to reward her for her efforts in mathematics over the past two days.

"Professor Grindelwald, a guest is waiting for you in the Reception Room."

Karl frowned slightly; he had no plans to receive guests today.

But out of politeness, he nodded and walked toward the Reception Room.

Karl opened the door and saw a white-haired but vigorous old man sitting in the Reception Room. If one ignored the strange purple pointed hat and the slightly ill-fitting old jeans, his demeanor alone made him look quite like a Professor.

"Hello! I apologize, but I don't believe we've met. May I ask who you are?"

The old man smiled and spoke: "My name is Albus Dumbledore. Mr. Karl Grindelwald, we certainly haven't met before, but I have met Louis Grindelwald."

Karl raised his eyebrows in surprise. Louis Grindelwald was his grandfather, an elderly man who suffered from Depression and was very solitary, and who had died of melancholy twenty years ago.

He hadn't expected someone to mention his grandfather's name after all these years.

"You were a friend of my grandfather's?"

"To be precise, I was a friend of your grandfather's older brother."

Karl brewed a cup of coffee and handed it over. "That's strange. I never heard that Grandpa had a brother."

Dumbledore took the coffee and gave an embarrassed smile. "He certainly wouldn't want to mention him—I mean, it was precisely because your grandfather's older brother did something wrong that your grandfather was implicated and had to leave his hometown to settle in Canada. Your grandfather likely hated him."

Karl's mind raced. After a moment of contemplation, he asked, "I imagine you know that my grandfather passed away twenty years ago... So, why are you here?"

Dumbledore did not answer immediately. Instead, he added three packets of sugar to the coffee in front of him, then picked up the cup and took a sip.

He squinted, seemingly unsatisfied with the sweetness, and added two more packets of sugar, leaving Karl speechless with shock.

Only after finishing the coffee, which was far sweeter than a lethal dose, did Dumbledore speak again:

"Miss Adelaide Grindelwald, your eldest daughter, exhibited extraordinary Magic Talent five days ago."

"If properly nurtured, she will become a great Wizard in the future."

Karl's eyes widened. He knew every word Dumbledore spoke, but put together, he couldn't understand the meaning.

"I apologize, I'm not very familiar with British dialects... Are you suggesting Adelaide has great talent in mathematics? Oh, yes! She will become a great Mathematician."

Ten kilometers away, Adelaide's eyelids suddenly twitched wildly. She scratched her head in confusion. Why had her mood inexplicably become heavy?

"Mathematics? No, I believe we are discussing magic."

Karl was full of questions, growing more confused the more he listened.

"magic? Are you saying Adelaide has a talent for Conjuring Tricks?"

Dumbledore sighed. He hadn't expected Louis to have never mentioned Gellert to his family, let alone the Magic World itself.

Thinking carefully, the Grindelwalds were a traditional German Pure-Blood Wizard Family. To be born into such a family and yet be a Squib, to have a genius older brother who was only a few years older, and then to be targeted by a group of Wizards because of that brother, forcing one to hide like a rat—Dumbledore could understand why Louis would not want to mention the Magic World again.

"In that case, we need to start from the beginning."

Lucy Grindelwald put down the novel in her hand and looked at the clock with some worry.

Normally, her husband should have been home three quarters of an hour ago, but it was now almost seven o'clock, and he still hadn't returned.

"Mom, I'm so hungry! Why isn't Dad home yet?"

Adelaide, clutching her Teddy Bear, crouched on the floor with a distressed expression. She had spent the entire afternoon swimming in a Sea of Problems, exhausting millions of brain cells just to escape the bitter ocean of mathematics, and she was hoping to eat something good to replenish her mind—

"Clap! Clap!"

A sharp sound suddenly came from the door. Lucy cautiously walked to the window and looked out, finding her husband standing side-by-side with an unfamiliar old man outside the door.

Lucy breathed a sigh of relief. It seemed Karl had only been delayed by meeting an acquaintance.

The door opened, and Karl stumbled into the house with wobbly steps.

Lucy quickly stepped forward to support her husband.

"Oh! Dear, have you been drinking?"

"No... Ugh! Dear Lucy, this is simply a miracle! Blech—"

The Grindelwald Family's Friday night descended into chaos due to special circumstances.

Karl stumbled into the bathroom and violently threw up into the toilet. Lucy, confused by the situation, anxiously paced outside the bathroom door, clutching the Family Medicine Kit. Adelaide, dragging her Teddy Bear, stared blankly at the white-haired old man holding a Small Wooden Stick by the door.

Oh my god!

She actually Transmigrated to the Magic World!
