Five friends had gathered to spend the afternoon together: Megan, Jordan, Stacy,karl, and Lucie. They were all at Lucie's house, planning to enjoy a quiet evening all together. They were sprawled out in the living room, the fan humming softly above them,the Tv on and snacks on the table.
Megan asked,
"Hey guys, what time is it?"
Lucie glanced up at the clock.
"it is 5:42 PM."
Jordan raised an eyebrow.
"The clock must be broken. It's been 5:42 for about thirty minutes now."
Lucie replied,
"No, it really is 5:42. Check your phone."
Jordan looked down at his phone.
"Oh… yeah, you're right. It really is 5:42. That's so weird."
Lucie smirked at him.
"See? I'm right, as usual. I should've made a bet.I need money,lot of money."
Everyone burst out laughing together.
Everyone except Stacy, who thought uneasily, "Am i the fool?I could have sworn it was already 5:42 more than thirty minutes ago on my watch too,strange".Stacy forced a smile, but she didn't look at the others—she was staring at the clock for a while, waiting for it to move.
