Chapter 4 - 4 Shadows of Secrets

That night, their steps along the river felt heavy, even though they had walked only a few meters. She glanced occasionally, noticing the dark shadow clinging to the riverside, seemingly tracking every move they made. Her heart raced, fear mixed with growing curiosity.

He looked at her calmly, as if reading her mind. "Do not be afraid. You will gradually understand," he said. His voice was soft yet commanding, making her heart tremble.

She tried to calm herself, taking a deep breath. But the shadow at the riverside became clearer. The figure did not move like an ordinary human, more like a living shadow of its own. Part of her was swallowed by fear, yet curiosity pushed her to keep walking behind him.

"Why me?" she finally asked, her voice trembling.

"Because you have a choice, and choices like this rarely come twice," he replied, eyes staring into the river reflecting the moonlight.

Step by step, they walked along the naturally dark corridor by the river. The cold night air raised the hairs on her arms. Every sound of leaves, water, and wind felt like a subtle warning. She felt as if she had stepped into another world – real, yet full of mysteries that logic could not yet explain.

She remembered the contract she had signed, a mixture of trust and caution. What was this contract really about? Was this man part of a bigger game? Every step brought her closer to answers, but also closer to dangers she could not anticipate.

When they stopped on a wooden bridge connecting the river to a darker road, he turned to her. "Now you will see something that will change the way you view the world," he said softly.

She swallowed. Fear and curiosity mingled. She nodded slowly, letting herself follow him.

Suddenly, from the riverside, a larger shadow emerged. The figure moved quickly, forcing her to restrain her step. He stood in front of her, hand extended, as if ready to protect her.

"This is only the beginning. Everything you thought about safety, comfort, and the contract – it will all change tonight," he whispered, eyes locking with hers.

The shadow leapt onto the bridge, making the wooden boards vibrate under their feet. He pulled her hand, and they both faced something darker than she had ever imagined.
