Chapter 53 - Chapter 51 survived

I gripped Keifer's arm tightly as I tried to survive the breakfast apocalypse. Baby Grazel Jay was crawling like a tiny hurricane, Mayo was screaming at her muffin again, and Felix was trying to scoop whipped cream off his shirt like it was a life-or-death mission.

In my head:

Oh, Felix… congratulations. You've been bested by a nine-month-old and a dairy product. Truly inspiring.

Rory was filming the entire disaster like he was documenting a nature documentary. "This is called survival of the fittest," he said dramatically, narrowly avoiding a flying grape.

Inner roast:

Rory, honey, if surviving meant not getting hit by a fruit projectile, you failed. Miserably.

Erdix was trying to block Grazel Jay from the cereal station but ended up slipping on spilled milk and crashing into Kit.

In my head:

Kit, you look like a pancake yourself now. Perfectly flattened. Bravo.

Meanwhile, I caught Freya muttering something about "kids these days," and Mica was hiding behind a chair like she hadn't signed up for combat at breakfast.

Inner roast:

Freya, you're a saint… for not screaming. Mica, girl… just take notes, because there's no surviving this without humor.

Keifer, ever the calm storm in my chaotic hurricane, slid closer. One hand on my waist, another subtly redirecting flying plates and mugs. A dropped fork? He nudged it gently aside. Baby Grazel Jay charging toward me? He scooped her up mid-crawl and handed her back to Grace like it was nothing.

"Hubby…" I whispered, "you are my literal shield."

He smiled softly. "Wifey, someone has to keep you alive."

I leaned against him and tried to keep my composure. "I thought surviving Section E was my cardio," I muttered.

Keifer chuckled quietly. "It's ours, wifey. Together."

And then came the next round of chaos.

Grandma walked in with a neon-blue energy drink in one hand and a tray of extra-sugary muffins in the other.

"Who's ready for more energy?" she asked, completely oblivious to the mess.

In my head:

Jay, you are officially married into a caffeine-fueled war zone.

Baby Grazel Jay saw the muffins, squealed, and bolted. Mayo screamed again. Kit tried to intercept. Felix grabbed a fork. C In flailed his arms like he was in a wind tunnel.

Inner roast:

C In, darling, you look ridiculous. Also, thank you for the comic relief.

"JAY—" Freya shouted, trying to grab Grazel Jay. "WATCH OUT FOR—"

The baby had already leapt, laughing, and Felix got a perfect whipped cream smear on his forehead.

I hid behind Keifer, silently roasting everyone.

Kit, your life choices led you here.

Mayo, muffins are not sacred.

Rory, congratulations, your filming career ends in fruit trauma.

Emman, standing like a statue doesn't help.

Eren, just stop laughing and pick up that syrup.

Rakki, you have no idea what's coming, do you?

Through all this, Keifer quietly saved me at every turn. A flying grape? He nudged it aside. Baby Grazel Jay crawling toward my coffee? He intercepted her mid-crawl. Felix swinging a fork? He subtly redirected it.

In my head:

Hubby, you are literally the best human alive. Calm, collected, and strong enough to survive Section E—again.

Rory screamed as a blueberry rolled toward him, and Keifer scooped it up. "Safe," he said, smiling at me like nothing else mattered.

I whispered, "Hubby, you are too perfect for this world."

He kissed my temple softly. "Wifey, stay calm. Focus on surviving and roasting in your head. That's your superpower."

I took a deep breath, letting the chaos swirl around us. Baby Grazel Jay squealed with delight, Grandma clapped proudly, Felix shrieked, and the rest of Section E argued about who started the syrup spill.

In my head:

Section E, you're ridiculous. Mayo, I hate you. Felix, I pity you. Rory, no one asked for your commentary. Kit, get up. Eren, stop laughing. Rakki, survive. Freya, bless your soul. Mica, hide better. Baby Grazel Jay, you are chaos incarnate and I love it.

Keifer held me close, whispering, "Wifey… you're doing amazing."

And in that moment, despite the screaming, the slipping, the flying food, and complete pandemonium… I smiled.

Because I wasn't alone.

I had Keifer. My hubby, my shield, my calm in the chaos.

Section E could scream, fall, slip, and destroy every breakfast item in the house… but we survived. Together.

And that, I realized, made this disaster somehow… perfect.
