Chapter 17 - Chapter 17: Good Grief! A Sorcerer Throwing Hands with Hulk?!

Boom!

Boom!

The wall of the New York Sanctum suddenly exploded outward.

Stones and debris blasted in every direction.

A gigantic green monster barged in from outside.

"Who goes there?! How dare you trespass into my New York Sanctum!"

A furious roar rang out.

Several sorcerers immediately stepped forward.

They were the Sanctum's resident defenders.

"It's Hulk? Why is he here?!" Aldrich said in shock.

"You know Hulk too?" Karl blurted out, stunned.

"Of course I do," Aldrich said. "Not long ago, Hulk caused massive chaos."

"At the time, even the Ancient One was considering stepping in."

"But later, the humans managed to control him."

"We at Kamar-Taj aren't cavemen. We know what's happening outside."

"In fact, we stay closely connected with the outside world—otherwise, how would we protect the world?"

Aldrich spoke calmly.

Karl nodded.

So that was how it was.

It made sense.

Even during the Battle of New York, the Sorcerer Supreme had taken action.

How could Kamar-Taj possibly have zero contact with the outside world?

Besides—

When the Chitauri invaded,

with only a handful of people in the Avengers, how could they possibly contain that many Chitauri?

Kamar-Taj had definitely made a move.

So Kamar-Taj wasn't cut off from the world at all.

Karl looked toward the raging Hulk.

"But… can you sorcerers really handle Hulk?"

Karl watched the sorcerers conjure up shields, and his expression made it clear he didn't buy it.

He didn't believe these people could deal with Hulk.

Especially not without a Master Sorcerer present.

"Whether we can or not, I can't let him wreck the Sanctum," Aldrich said.

"Karl, fall back. I'll deal with this monster!"

As he spoke, Aldrich snapped both arms outward.

Two golden shields of light flared into existence.

Without another word, he charged in.

And on the other side—

Hulk was already moving.

Facing unknown opponents, Hulk had no fear at all. When he went berserk, there was no one he wouldn't swing at.

Those pot-like fists—each the size of a huge basin—smashed straight at the sorcerers.

Bang!

That brutish, freakish power slammed into the golden barrier.

Every defender stationed here—

even the weakest among them was a seasoned, senior sorcerer.

They were Kamar-Taj's backbone combat force.

Against ordinary people, they were overwhelmingly strong.

But who were they facing?

Hulk.

Even among the Avengers, he was top-tier muscle.

Even the Asgardians marveled at Hulk's raw strength.

By the power scale of the Marvel world,

Hulk's strength was at the mortal peak—one of the strongest beings below the pseudo–Skyfather level.

A senior sorcerer was, at best, comparable to an average super hero.

Against a monster whose hands could stop a starship—

how could they possibly hold him back?

Even if Hulk right now wasn't as strong as he'd been during the Battle of New York—

he still couldn't be stopped.

One punch.

The shield shattered.

That terrifying force sent the defending sorcerer flying.

If that sorcerer's body hadn't been tough, that single hit might have been a death sentence.

But even so—

the sorcerers didn't stop.

They rushed in one after another, trying to restrain Hulk with powerful spells.

Several of them combined their power into a single barrier to block Hulk's blows.

Others condensed Eldritch Whips, trying to bind Hulk down and force him to calm.

But—

they had completely underestimated Hulk's strength.

"ROAR!!"

Hulk's rage spiked.

Muscles bulged across his body as sheer power erupted.

The Eldritch Whips controlling his body—

snapped apart under brute force.

Several sorcerers were flung away like toys.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

They crashed into the Sanctum's walls.

Dust rained down.

Blood spilled from their mouths.

A squad of elite senior sorcerers—

was completely outclassed by Hulk!

"Hulk! Don't get cocky!" Aldrich roared.

One hand held a shield, the other wielded an Eldritch Whip—

and he charged straight at Hulk.

Karl had been expecting Aldrich to show off, to drop Hulk on the spot—

but then he saw it.

Aldrich came flying back—

at triple the speed he'd gone in.

Karl: ???

Seriously.

Sensei, your combat power is worse than the senior sorcerers. Why did you charge in—donate yourself as a target?

But Aldrich was still Karl's teacher.

Karl lunged forward, caught Aldrich, took several steps back, and bled off the impact.

"Go—notify a Master Sorcerer!" Aldrich shouted, face flushed from the surge of blood and Vital Energy.

"We'll hold him for a little longer! Go—now!"

Karl sighed.

With you like this, charging in is basically suicide.

Karl wasn't letting that happen.

"Aldrich-sensei, you should rest."

"I'll go up and hold him back."

"Perfect timing—I want to see what my current strength is really like."

A flash of excitement crossed Karl's eyes.

Hulk really was strong.

But right now, he definitely wasn't at his peak.

If this were the Battle of New York version of Hulk—the one who could stop a starship weighing at least a thousand tons with a single punch—Karl would turn around and leave.

But this wasn't that Hulk.

This was early Hulk, fresh into the transformation.

He wasn't that strong yet.

Karl stepped forward and met him head-on.

"ROAR!"

Hulk saw yet another person appear in front of him and bellowed at Karl.

The blast of sound was so violent that dirt and fragments around them jumped and flew.

Then—

Hulk charged like an elephant, barreling straight at Karl.

Each step stamped massive footprints into the ground.

He closed the distance—

and threw a punch.

A fist like a giant basin split the air, whipping up a gale.

Karl didn't retreat an inch.

He drove forward—

and threw a punch of his own.

Bang!

One huge fist, one small fist—

collided head-on.

A massive shockwave burst outward.

Loose stones on the ground were blown away.

"Looks like your strength isn't all that," Karl said flatly.

A grin of excitement crept onto his face.

His strength—

really was terrifyingly high!!

God-tier talent was genuinely insane.

Karl followed with another punch, and Hulk staggered.

The two of them tangled together in a brutal clinch, trading blows in rapid succession.

Aldrich, sprawled on the ground, widened his eyes in shock.

Fighting Hulk?

Just pure physical brawling with Hulk?

Was this even human?!

Was that really human strength?!

The Kamar-Taj Fighting Arts Karl trained in—

was it even the same thing they trained?

That power—

was way too strong!

He was a monster!

Karl… was absolutely outrageous!
