Chapter 39 - Part38:The Windrise Port Raid

The Battle for the Liberation of Mondstadt

In the distant world of Teyvat, Mondstadt was once a realm of freedom and wind, where people lived and worked in peace and contentment, enjoying a calm and beautiful life. However, the course of fate was suddenly disrupted. Lü Bu, the renowned general of the late Eastern Han Dynasty, after unifying the realm of the Eastern Han, turned his gaze to this land brimming with mysterious power. Leading a vast army across dimensions, he captured Mondstadt in one fell swoop, shattering the tranquility of the city.

With his unparalleled martial prowess and elite troops under his command, Lü Bu quickly seized control of Mondstadt, plunging its people into deep fear and despair.

Varka, the Grand Master of the Knights of Favonius in Mondstadt, was then on an expedition to the northern borders of Teyvat. Upon receiving the devastating news that Mondstadt had fallen to Lü Bu, he was filled with immense anxiety. Hailed by Acting Grand Master Jean Gunnhildr as a living legend of the Knights of Favonius, Varka was known for his free-spirited and laid-back demeanor, yet in critical moments, he displayed unwavering resolve and decisive action. He knew that Mondstadt must be reclaimed as soon as possible to free the oppressed people.

After careful deliberation, Varka formulated a bold and meticulous plan. He decided to lead his main forces to disguise themselves as merchants from Snezhnaya, sail to Windrise Port—now occupied by Lü Bu's army—and launch a surprise attack. Windrise Port was a vital maritime hub of Mondstadt, serving as the key artery for Lü Bu's military supply lines and troop movements. Capturing it would cut off the enemy's supplies, laying the groundwork for the subsequent liberation of Mondstadt.

Varka's expeditionary force included the father of his protégé, Acting Grand Master Jean, as well as numerous loyal and battle-hardened knights. Mika Schmidt, a forward scout with a strong sense of camaraderie, was also among them. Mika held Varka in the highest esteem. During the expedition, Varka not only taught him combat skills but also assigned him various tasks to hone his abilities beyond mapmaking. At this moment, Mika stood firmly beside Varka, ready to contribute his strength to the liberation of Mondstadt.

The fleet sailed slowly toward Windrise Port, flying the flags of Snezhnaya. Varka and his knights had exchanged their armor for the attire of Snezhnayan merchants, their disguises impeccable. Their faces bore the shrewd yet modest expressions typical of traders, but their eyes blazed with the steely resolve of soldiers. As the port drew near, tension hung thick in the air; every man clenched his concealed weapon, his heart pounding uncontrollably.

When the fleet approached the harbor, Lü Bu's garrison soldiers stepped forward to interrogate them. Varka stepped forward calmly, speaking fluent Snezhnayan to the guards. He claimed to be a wealthy merchant arriving to trade, bearing a cargo of precious goods and desiring to negotiate with the new ruler of Mondstadt. The guards, taken in by Varka's confidence and plausible story, and seeing no irregularities with the fleet, lowered their guard and permitted the ships to dock.

The instant the gangplanks were lowered, Varka gave a prearranged signal. The knights hidden in the holds surged forth like a tidal wave, tearing off their merchant disguises to reveal their gleaming knightly armor. Swords and lances glinted coldly in the sunlight. Varka led the charge, his towering figure standing out among his men. His greatsword whirled with immense force, cutting down several guards before they could react.

Lü Bu's army was caught completely off guard by the sudden assault, and the port descended into chaos. Yet Lü Bu's soldiers were seasoned veterans of countless battles, and they soon began to organize a counterattack. For a time, the air rang with the clamor of battle cries, the flash of clashing blades, and the ground of the port was stained red with blood.

Mika, armed with a spear and a crossbow, moved nimbly across the battlefield. He heeded Varka's teachings, avoiding close-quarters combat and leveraging his speed and the advantage of his ranged weapons to strike at the enemy's weak points. Each of his shots was precise and powerful, clearing a path for his comrades.

Varka led the elite of the Knights of Favonius in a fierce charge toward the heart of the port. They faced wave after wave of resistance from Lü Bu's forces; enemy generals, wielding broadswords, led their soldiers in ferocious assaults. But Varka knew no fear. His swordsmanship was sharp and relentless, each swing repelling a swarm of enemies. Under his leadership, the knights' morale soared, cutting through the enemy's defenses like a sharp blade.

The battle reached its fever pitch, with heavy casualties on both sides. Still, Varka and his knights showed no sign of retreat. Their sole conviction burned bright: to recapture Mondstadt and restore freedom to its people. Finally, through Varka's unyielding efforts, the Knights of Favonius broke through the enemy's final line of defense, successfully seizing control of Windrise Port. Lü Bu's remaining soldiers surrendered, and the port was once again in the hands of the people of Mondstadt.

Even after capturing the port, Varka allowed himself no respite. He knew this was only the first step in liberating Mondstadt; greater challenges lay ahead. He immediately ordered his men to clear the battlefield, tend to the wounded, and dispatch scouts to Mondstadt City to gather intelligence on Lü Bu's latest movements.

Varka stood atop the highest point of Windrise Port, his gaze fixed on the direction of Mondstadt City, his eyes filled with unshakeable resolve. He was well aware that the final showdown with Lü Bu was imminent—a battle that would be exceedingly difficult. Yet he knew no fear. He trusted in the courage and wisdom of the Knights of Favonius, and in the people of Mondstadt's unwavering yearning for freedom. They would defeat Lü Bu, reclaim their city, and restore Mondstadt to its former prosperity and peace.
