Chapter 31 - Until the End of the Universe

Jay's POV

Two weeks later

The hospital room smelled faintly of disinfectant and wilted flowers. Machines hummed in the background—their beeps a fragile thread connecting Keifer to this world. I sat in the chair that had become my second home, eyes heavy from nights without sleep, my fingers tracing the edge of his blanket.

Then—his finger twitched. At first, I thought I imagined it. But when it happened again, my heart jolted to life. "Doctor!" I shouted, my voice echoing through the sterile corridor. A nurse rushed in, followed by the doctor, just as Keifer's eyes fluttered open.

"Jay…" he whispered, his voice cracked and dry like paper.

I grasped his hand, squeezing it as tears blurred my vision. "I'm here," I told him, my throat aching.

"I love you," he rasped, fighting for breath. "I'll love you until scientists find the end of the universe."

A sob broke free from my chest. "I love you more," I said, my voice trembling.

Then suddenly, his eyes slipped closed. The heart monitor let out a long, piercing tone. "No…" I whispered, but the doctors were already moving—rushing, shouting codes I couldn't understand. The room exploded into chaos. Everything blurred, except for Keifer's still face.

And just like that—the alarm stopped.

The doctor approached slowly, her expression heavy. She knelt beside me. "I'm so sorry," she said softly. "We lost him."

I shook my head violently. "No. He's not gone!" I stumbled toward the bed. "You promised me, Keifer! You said you'd never leave!" My voice cracked under the weight of it. "Please… wake up!"

Hours passed. The room emptied except for his brothers—Keigan and Keiren—who held me while they cried too. Kuya tried to comfort me, telling me to go home. But how could I? What meaning did life hold without him?

Eventually, everyone left but me. I wandered upstairs, my body numb, my heart a hollow shell. The night wind bit at my skin as I stepped toward the edge of the hospital roof. Keigan's voice broke behind me, pleading. Soon, others joined—Kuya, Tita, Aries—all crying, all begging me not to do it.

I looked out at the city lights below, the world still turning as mine had fallen apart. "I'm coming, Keifer," I whispered—and stepped forward.

Then—darkness.

I gasped awake, drenched in sweat, my chest heaving. The hospital room came into focus again. Keifer's hand was warm in mine, his chest rising steadily with each breath. Tears spilled down my cheeks as I kissed his hair.

"I love you so much," I whispered, holding him close, afraid to ever let go again.

So what did you think, guys?

I know many of you wanted Keifer to die this time, but I just couldn't do it—at least not yet. Maybe one day, when Jay's ready.

Also, thank you so much for 104k readers! 🥲 It means everything to me. I'm sorry for disappearing for two days—exams have been rough, and stress has been through the roof. But guess what? I actually passed my English test—with a really good score! 😭

Tell me your thoughts below—should I keep the bittersweet dream ending, or twist it again next time? Until then, stay safe and take care.

Love you all ❤️
