Chapter 19 - Chapter 19: Zane Jennings's Way of Asking for an Address

Erin Lowell thought for a moment. "Would you believe me if I said I didn't hear you clearly back then?"

He had saved her and even gotten injured. Forgetting about any reward, she had first lied to him, then stood him up. It was a textbook case of ingratitude.

Now, Erin Lowell felt she was in the wrong no matter how she looked at it. Even her explanation carried a note of tentative guilt.

"I don't think I would," Zane Jennings said with a smile, raising an eyebrow.

Erin Lowell looked up to meet his gaze, her heart fluttering. He was dressed in black again—he must like the color. His jacket was zipped up to his neck. It was a simple, thin garment, an utterly ordinary outfit, but on a man with his build, it was hard to look away.

After a few seconds, she averted her eyes. Instead of continuing with the topic of her exposed lie, she thought for a moment, deciding it was best to settle this debt once and for all. "You saved me, and you got hurt. How about I compensate you?"
